(2737) Car park off Ship Lane. Short walk from there to the pillar. Not quite situated on the high point - the nearby monument has that honour. The pillar has been messily painted white, including the lichen! Centre cap missing. Bit bashed about in terms of overall condition, but nowt too bad. Good views of Oldham and Manchester from the location. Pillar history: Built on the 12th of May 1940, at a cost of £4 2s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in February of 1980.

I think our notes said this was in a car park, not quite, just a short walk from one. On the way back chatted to a radio amateur in the car park who had spoken to someone in Belarus due to the present lift. My Dad was a radio amateur so coinea was impressed with my knowledge....

This trig is very easy to locate. Near the Bishop Gate monument which has it's own car park just off Ship Lane. Not a particularly satisfying 'bag'. The pillar was full of ants/flies, it looked in a dilapidated condition, and the views aren't particularly memorable. But it's in the bag.

Parked in a car park just off Ship Lane. Took the public right of way from there up to the summit of Wotherhead Hill and the pillar, which is next to an obelisk / monument. The cap is missing and there is some damage around the spider. There is a toposcope nearby, which is missing the plaque at the top

This was my last pillar on the OS Explorer Map Dark Peak and a very nice one to visit before continuing over to Crompton Moor. I parked at Grains Bar and did a quick out and back before picking up the 11 mile Crompton Circuit. This trig was one 1/4 close to the CC. I gift all 4 pillars to parents who are working and home schooling.

Parked in the carpark to the north west and followed the obvious path to the memorial and then the trig , which is slightly damaged with a small piece missing from around the spider and a crack running around close to the base of the southern face, the trig has a green tinge to its base-and a certain aroma- good viewpoint -the area is well used by dog walkers and at the time of my visit drone flyers

HISTORY: This monument to map making was built during May 1940. It was completed on 12th May 1940 for a total cost of £4.2s.9d. In 1945, this triangulation station was computed during the reconnaissance of Secondary Block SD80 (Manchester) as tertiary triangulation station SD80/T10. In October 1958 the bench mark on this pillar was valued for height to first class precision, tertiary levelling standards. This marker was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in February 1980. SITE VISIT: Open parkland with adjacent monument. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre has broken open asphalt. Flush bracket faces NW, compass measurement 330°. Vented through NE sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view. Part of a 24 trig stint around the northern outskirts of Manchester.

Wonderful views from here. Easy to reach. 5 minute walk from car park. Can see Winter Hill, Windy Hill, Jodrell Bank, Fiddler's Ferry, Holme Moss - on good days, and even at night good view over Manchester. My home trig point - visited several times each week.

Same as yesterday - left Sheffield in beautiful sunshine only to get over the Pennines and find myself cloaked in fog. Hence no views. One edge of the spider exposed, remains of tarmac cap and a noticeable crack around the base.

No.4/5 Quick park and log from the narrow lane running SE from Grains Bar. Amazingly the TP retains its spider despite efforts to chip away at one of the legs. Again suffering with the visibility today - went downhill after the partial eclipse this morning.

Visited this trig today its on the lancashire yorkshire border at grains bar Oldham, trig is in fair condition but someone wanted to remove the spider and caused damage to the top, plug missing, area is used by dog walkers who dont clear up after there pets disgusting mess everywhere.

This is a great find. There is a car park very close and after a short stroll up your find the trig, an obelisk thingy and a toposcope, sadly without its top. The views are wonderful and there is a bench there to sit and feast on the panorama. Really worth a visit!

Wow. Quite a view as the Halifax road climbs out of darkest Oldham, and good views from the top. Best of both worlds, to the west over metropolis and to the east over the Dovestone edges. And to the north over ... I'm gonna need a bigger map! Plenty of dogs on the top, but the seemed to have learnt toilet etiquette. Shame about the cat park though. Lots and lots of litter. Shame!

Some amount of damage is evident on the top, but the site affords wonderful views of the surroundig valleys and moors. The nearby monument and stone table from which the surrounding panarama plate is missing make this site more interesting, as do the glimpses of nearby folleys

Padlock still there, dog s~*t less evident. Decent view across Greater Manchester. Nearby parking almost full of containers or other obsticles (see photo). Nice donation of land (see John's entry). Hiked up from Greenfield railway station. No cars, on foot.

On a wind swept hill overlooking Oldham. Trig looks a bit sad with the green slime. Close to a car park for easy access. Nice views. Padlock still aatached to spider.

Showing wear and tear. A slimy green mould is growing on the trig point. Be warned, the dog mess in this area is some of the worse I've seen. There must be many irresponsible dog owners around.

Trig is set near an obelisk shaped monument on an exposed Bishop Park, a 50 acre patch of land donated to the people of Oldham in 1927 by Eileen Ludlam in memory of her parents William and Anne Bishop. Its a popular place with dog walkers and kite flyers and people just wanting to blow away the cobwebs. The padlock is still on the spider. There is slight damage to the top.

An interesting bike ride using the recommended horse route from Friezland to Bishop Park and back via Brown Edge (near Hartshead Pike). I could just make out Hartshead Pike through the murk from the TP
