No public footpaths routing up through the forestry land but I guess it is publicly accessible. Could be wrong, use caution. Steep forest tracks up to the top of the hill then clamber over a toppled gate and across open hilltop to the trig. 4 horses grazing the fields alongside the trig our only company.

Train to Llanwrda and as travel free with old person bus pass until end of March the train was packed with the grey wave, sloshing back and fore on the Heart of Wales line. From station (10.35) on tiny B-roads, steep up hill at first in pleasant spring sunshine, before dropping and winding round to entrance of forestry at foot of pillar hill (11.20). Track up through forestry, as marked on 25K OS, ending at fallen gate to summit field, 4 small ponies wearing coats my only witness (11.40-11.48). Splendid view point over Llandovery and Towy valley with hill tops of the Black Mountain spread over the horizon. Back down to road (12.02) and continued winding east to Llandovery (13.00) with time for R&R in town before train south (14.07).

Logging tracks from the west, a bit north and south but good track all the way to the gate with easy access to the pillar.

Parked in the entrance track to the woods. The unkempt track is still easily passable. Quite a steep pull all the way up. Cap has been broken through. Decent view.

Tricksy access through managed woodland to W. Good forest 'road' to SN 73420 33775 after which path no longer maintained and deteriorating, maybe impassable in a year or 2. Eventually field gate gives out onto pleasant open hilltop pasture with short walk to trig. Pillar in good condition on exposed concrete plinth; cap missing, remains of cement plug painted white; both side sight holes open. Excellent panoramic views.

This appeared harder on the map than when I got there.parking just inside wood to the West,follow path straight up ,go left at junction then Right at next ,follow this untl it meets a fence which leads to a gate and open pasture containing pillr.Good views pleasant walk .Think wood is private but unless you are unlucky would be surprised if you meet anyone.Pillar in good condition .
