A combination of lots of rain and the adjacent midden has turned the area around the base of the pillar into something squelchy and organic. Good views over Accrington etc.

Parked opposite metal gate then over it into the field, heading right to the top of the hill. Pillar sits in a small fenced off compound. repair work done to Trig and replacement centre cap fitted. Field very boggy this time of year

This evening I had a walk around 3 Accrington trigpoints, Duckworth Hill, Stanhill and Bottoms Farm. All were a little off the ROWs but easily reached without any issues, some nice viewpoints. Last of the three and the least interesting to walk to as it was just up the road. I went over the gate as the light was low but it was very boggy in the field due to the cows. The trigpoint was inside a fence next to the manure pile unfortunately but the fence was easy to duck through. The manure largely obscured what might have been a nice view of Accrington...

Revisiting on today's bench marking trip in the area,hard to believe its well over 13 years since my last visit. The top has been extensively repaired at some point the base has damage as well. Very good views here to Accrington and Pendle Hill better tan last time in the snow.

Trig 4 of 5 for the day. I approached from Green Haworth Golf Club. I had a little trouble accessing the trig field due to very deep mud. So I improvised and walked down the lane to the other side and hopped over a gate. The fence mentioned by JoeNTMY has now gone but a mound of earth remains. Pretty mundane visit tbh.

I tried from all angles to get to this trig but it is surrounded by barbed wire fields on private land. I did find a gate that I am certain you could climb at SD750264 but it is opposite a house and I wasnt comfortable climbing it. I did see the trig from the top of the hill as you walk down Broadfield.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 12th June 1948 costing £14.8s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD74/T9 during 1948. Levelled for height in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in October 1979. SITE VISIT: Easy parking on Broadfield (road), SD748267. Approached via RoW network to NNW which is a nightmare of electric fences and dung heaps. Then onto open fields. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre contains a grey plastic cap, fitted 28/05/2000 by JWR. Flush bracket faces ESE, ~124°. Vented through SW sight hole. 225° panoramic view spans from SW through north to east. Left via RoW to SE, one barbed fence to negotiate. With hindsight there is a gate from the road into the trig field, to the west of the pillar which I would recommend to future visitors.

Parking on the corner near the cottages, then along ROW, there is a new fence along the left hand side preventing access to the summit, I followed ROW further round to stables where the T junction in the ROW is then left through small paddock then into field straightforward stroll over from there off the ROW. Pillar good condition.

Easily accessible and visible. In open field just off public footpath. I parked in a large turning circle cum layby to the south and then walked down to the start of the footpath. Some slight damage but otherwise in reasonably good conditions. Probably nice views but misty today.

Gate off the lane. Good view to Pendle. Rough pasture, and the cows, seeing me enter, assembled by the gate to cut me off, pawing the ground in anticipation. I outwitted them by cimbing over the wall and falling on to the road. I hate cows!!!!

Easy access, just over a stile with a convenient parking spot. Quite a bit of faded paint. Plastic plug replacement. Base exposed all round. South sight-hole open, others closed. Excellent views W/N/E.

Starting to crack up, bits missing. Easy to get at in a field recently vacated by cattle who appreciate the pillars abrasive qualities. The pillar is moated by a cattle filled/dug swamp.
