Had a good try for this one measuring it out and everything from the still present pipe nail. But the location now has many false positive flat rocks in the area. Think there has been work done on the banking after the last positive find.

Noting Iain's comments and photo and ted's nail in back of footpath, it should be about 2 ft L (N) of nailed post. Dug down about a foot, no sign of it. Quite hard subsoil. From Iain's pic relative to the fence, verge looks to have been raised a foot or more, so could be still there. If CJO is correct it could be closer to footway i.e. footway may have been moved closer to fence. Seems it's a brass rod type marker not a bolt, from photos and Iain's comment (and the red paint).

Found pipe nail. Dimensions from sketch put this close to pavement edge. However, if the from pin dimension is measured from the post base up the slope it would end up nearer to the location shown in Ianmac's photo. Maybe this will get a revisit someday, next time we are passing.

Sorry all, didn't have a spade. Nor could I find this block in the long grass today. What I can say to help is that the lamposts are still numbered as below. The Woodlands sign is now a brick structure rather than a lampost sign. I parked at Redhouse Macdonalds so had the opportunity to return via the Roman Ridge byway behind the estate (me being a Roman soldier in a previous life). Wonder what they would have thought of all the rubbish from Macdonalds now lining the path?

Although the lamp posts have changed, the pipe nail in the top of a wooden fence post still exists to indicate the general area. Also noted a nail set in the edge of the pavement; not shown on the OS sketch but seems likely to have been placed as a marker for the block. Measuring back from the latter, found a large, fairly flat-topped, rock just below the surface. We also measured from the fence and spent some time digging around the probable location. Plenty of small stones so difficult to probe, but no concrete found. Most likely conclusion is that the block has gone. But it occurred to me on the way home that the large flat rock might have been placed as a covering for the block; the next visitor might like to take a spade and verify this :)

1st came here in May with no success and revisited today with Ted, even with the sketch and previous loggers photo's and well over 30 minutes poking and digging still no sign, I did say to Ted as we were walking away that I would not be back again but looking at his comments today I might return 1 day if I am in the area.

Little bit worried about this one as it seems to be a nail rather than a rivet, its not directly in front of the pin in fence and its between lampposts 28 & 29 rather than 29/30 as per sketch.

Close to the point where the A638 passes the A1 and managed to persuade the driver to pull into the sliproad from the latter to find this, even though he thought I was quite mad! Without the trusty trowel, I thought it might be difficult but recent grass mowers and a good OS picture proved more than adequate. A very busy location!
