(4101) My 600th extant pillar. Parked on Eastwood Road at the layby. Easy walk from there to the pillar. Glorious views at the location. Pillar in fair overall condition and still retains its original centre cap. Slight damage to the top made worse by some slapdash repairs. And with that it was time to wait for Green Flag to come to the rescue and sort out my car trouble. GR to 3.8m. Pillar sits at 437.7m above sea level. Pillar history: Built on the 2nd of May 1948, at a cost of £11.11s.0d. Last maintained by the OS in October of 1980.

(426) We parked up in the large lay-by on Eastwood Road, and I left the ladies in the car for a swift solo dash up to the Bridestones. Sadly the thick hill fog and drizzle prevented any appreciation of the renowned views here, so this one will have to be revisited at some point. It sits amongst the stunning cluster of boulders, and is a great spot to visit - but it has been subject to a clumsy amateur repair to the top, and despite miraculously retaining all the original metalwork, it looks a bit of a pig. 15 minutes out and back, and I managed to be disappointed with the pillar and the view... I'll go again...

2nd trig of today's 9 mile hike. I definitely saved the best till last. Coming from Heptonstall Moor, I'd followed 'Dukes Cut' to Kebs Road then took the footpath near The Barn and headed South then East up to this magnificent location. Several of the rocks there look absolutely incredible. Some carved with the names of past visitors (some dating back to the 1800s) After logging I continued east onto Eastwood Rd, heading back to the car at the New Delight pub.
