Nowhere to safely park in the village of Askham and noone to seek access permission from at Orchard Hill Farm so I parked on some wasteland close to the railway line and then walked uphill to the bridleway. Access to the trig pillar was gained along a tractor tack directly off the bridleway. Very easy to reach with great 360 degree far reaching views of beautiful countryside. 3/7 trigs today

Parked at entrance to PROW then quick detour off onto island through farmer's field, no restrictions. Intact furry leg next to the trig, looked like a dog's leg.. probably a hare though!

A nice local one. Took top Street in Askham. Carried on out the village until the last farm on the right before the railway bridge, and there’s a lane to the right. Carried on up the lane for a short distance, then took a big grassy lane to the left which leads to the remains of an old farm building. The trig is situated along this lane in the open so you can see it from a long way off. One of my favourite trigs as the view all the way around is fantastic. You can really see how this little trig did its job. On a clear day you can even see Lincoln Cathedral in the distance. Also proud because one of my photos from this visit made it to the cover of the Nottinghamshire Trig Bagger book.

After bagging some easy Retford Trigs we added this on on the way back to the A1. I had planned to drive up Stocking Lane but the way was blocked by a farmer in his tractor cutting the hedges, so drove into Askham, parked up and walked along Church Lane. A pleasant walk in the late autumn sunshine. Pillar is easy to reach along the grassy track and then a short distance into the field. Very nice views all around, especially to the W. Beer in the Duke William afterwards.

Loved this trig! Visited with my kids who are always eager to earn their 50p trig bribe. It was a glorious late spring afternoon and a picture of English arable farmland. We parked on the byway and spotted the trig on the horizon. It was a lovely walk further up the byway to the wide, grassy track that takes you almost there, and then we found a tractor line right up to the trig. I did wonder if this farmer was a trigger, or just a rare nice one. Splendid views in all directions and the trig itself is salted with quartz. It is however falling away in the earth due to wet ground and summer shrinkage. Don’t miss the nearby hyperbolic roof on the A1 Starbucks nearby.

(1796) Handy parking on Top Street just before the rail bridge over the East Coast main line - I wonder if I'll be able to spot the pillar next time I'm heading to London? Steady stroll down Stocking Lane until level with the pillar, then a quick divert off the PRoW and into the field. Had phoned ahead to ask for permission to visit (Orchard Hill Farm - 01777 838246) Tractor tracks handy to avoid any trampling of the crop. All good though the cap is asphalt. Cracking views at the location. Pillar history: Built on the 25th of September 1937, at a cost of £4 2s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in December of 1982.

Visited during a trigpoint-bagging bike ride. Approached from the east via Askham village, the pillar is reached by taking the rough lane on the right just before the railway bridge, then following another track left into the field. I had directions from a friendly lady walking her dogs. Pillar in good condition, pleasant elevated situation overlooking the railway line with views towards Clumber Park.

Walked from Gamston church E. along track past Glebe Farm, under railway line then a quick hike up the hill to the trig. Trig was surrounded by newly planted crops, not as near to the track as suggested by the 1:50000 map suggested. Had to get a shift on as no idea where Brotherwood Farm was. Trig is in good condition with wide, expansive views all round. Not bad! Then walking on to East Markham and trig at 758722.

This one is quite a hike off the lane but easy access along farm tracks. Asphalt plug replacement. No significant paint visible. N sighthole closed, others open. Concrete base exposed 12" or more on W face. In splendid isolation in a huge arable field, one half of which has been recently ploughed, the other harvested but unploughed.
