(392) I parked up outside the gates, and was pleasantly surprised to find them no obstacle - they are a good height, with a decent foothold on either the wooden post to the left, or the handles - and no barbed wire. A quick clamber up and over, and a trot through the compound and up to the pillar and back took about 3 minutes - nothing disturbed or damaged. The pillar is in very good condition with a full set of metalwork.

How lucky was I? As I was walking down from parking my car in the pub carpark, a YW bod was locking the gates. Gave him my sweetest smile and asked if I could go photo the TP before he locked up. Very obliging young man, and a swift dash into the compound, to the right, up the bank, a couple of pics and sprinted out! Half expected to be locked in, but he kept his word. Many thanks to you. No idea what the views were like!

Caught between jackrustle's fear of being stuck in the compound and jonglew's nonchalant popping over the gate. Without spikes on top of the gate, there looked like less chance of castration; so over the top I went and trotted over to the pillar to bag my prize. Found out later that Rishi Sunak lived a mile down the road, so felt quite relieved not to be arrested for acting suspicious on his doorstep.

Disappointing, but hopefully a revisit will tick this one off properly. Pillar readily visible and all looks to be in good condition. Driving into Northallerton so thought I'd have a stab at this one. Parked up by the gates and assessed.....Decided to tackle it so climbed over the 7' gates in a very inelegant manor. Couldn't see anything to my left so looked behind the station building and could see the pillar sat on top of one of the structures. Nipped over to it and took a few photos in each direction. When walking on top of the structure it felt less than solid under my weight and I had visions of falling through into the water below with no real prospect of rescue. I guess that's why it is fenced off..... Anyhow, nice views westwards, but I get the impression the pillar may have been moved from its original location.
