First of a couple of trigs around Haltwhistle. This one looked easier on the map. Parked up by the gate to The Beacon and crossed over the road through the gate leading to the stretch of old road. Followed this for a few yards then another gate onto the Access Land. Initially followed the quadbike tracks down into the dip, then made our way through the soggy moorland to the next small rise to the pillar. Very nice views all around, especially north to the course of Hadrian's Wall. Made a beeline back towards the beacon to try and avoid the lower boggy bits but still ended up with wet feet. Couldn't be bothered to walk the few yards up to The Beacon so jumped in the car and headed to the next trig.

My second visit. different route - a quick nip over the moor from the E, parked at the gate by 'The Beacon'. Second old wooden gate onto moor itself - snagged coat on a rusty nail on this gate - most upset. Previous visit just over 3 years was in mid August and this TP was surrounded by an absolute fiesta of purple heather, now early September and its not quite as vivid this time round. Great views N across Northumberland, after rain showers though the afternoon the skies had cleared and the views stretched N as far as the Cheviots.

Nice views all round. We came up from Haltwhistle. The ROW across the moor from Milldam Plantation is indistict. It's far easier to follow the track running alongside the grouse butts and head up to the moor top following the sheep trails as best you can, the trig is clearly visible from the last grouse butt. As John comments, if approaching from other directions you won't see the trig until you reach the crown of the hill. Now on access land but I got the sense that it's a little visited stretch of moorland. Somewhat puzzled by andyc's entry, it's hard to imagine an open cast mine anywhere near this trig?

It was a cold and dull Easter Saturday morning. I approached from the West from Park Village via Lynnshield and accross Ramshaw Fell. I was having doubts on the final rise that there may be nothing on the summit and my first 'first' would be a failure. Then I saw it standing there just as I had hoped, and in excellent condition. Its a lonely tract of grouse moorland with views up to Hadrian's Wall area. Altogether an enjoyable early morning run. Note added 05-09-06: If anyone is puzzled by my reference to my first 'first' its because I was the first to log this trig on this website. Obviously andyc and jimmy had visited earlier but logged later.
