We parked at Carrington church. The trig sits on a round hill just south of the village. It's almost like an island in the middle of a field.

Parked at gateway to NE where we met the farmer who gave ok to park and instructions on best route which is go up right field and thru gap to right then turn left and head for little hill Field in stubble

Parked to the N, at Carrington Mains (NT 3172 6040). Field margin track leads down then a trod through a crop to the small rounded hill on which the pillar stands. Original centre cap retained, lightly indented lettering; rear sight hole open, RHD side plug deteriorating badly. Nice panoramic views.

Parked in Manse Road at Carrington Kirk. Walked up road passing play park and residential housing. More parking available here. Entered field at end of road via gate. Trig point is on top of hillock in middle of farm field. Walked along field edge, on well used grass track until level with trig, then along plowed furrow to hillock which is left "wild". Easy 30 mins up and down.

Walked from Gorebridge train station along South Esk before heading up to Carrington. Pretty village with nice church. Simple walk south from village along field edge. Trig easily spottable on small hillock within field. A walk along the South Esk is recommended if you are in the area.

good views all around. walked in from the village of Carrington,then along a field edge, quick walk over a ploughed field, (only about a 100 meter), then up a hillock. Trig in excellent cond.

This was our second Trigpoint ever found. Fairly easy to get to. Parked car at the Church on Main Street and continued along the Main Street then headed on to Manse Road. Walked up this road (where we noticed we could actually have parked further up here nearer to the trig) and continued along. The road veered to the right after passing some pretty cottages and comes by Carrington House (big white building) which is on the left hand side of Manse Road. Directly after this house on same side of road, there is an entrance to a potato field. Enter the field and there is a nice wee track to walk along. Trigpoint is clearly visible on the top of a hill so we took a nice wee walk up and got straight to the trig no problem due to the tatties having just been freshly dug. Lovely views from the Trigpoint.

Although sitting on a mound of waste ground, this is surrounded by crop fields - currently potatoes awaiting harvest. Field NE - harvested broad beans and a young sprouting grassy crop

Parked outside the lovely kirk in Carrington village. Went west then south west on minor road to Carrington House. Just past the house a track led onto the stubble field and hence to the trig. Must have timed it right to avoid any crops. Trig sits up on a cheeky wee hill and gives good views.

First visit despite working close by for the last 10 years. Fields partially cropped so took a chance although had to use deer track through the wheat crop for the last 50 metres to the pillar which is sat on a small drumlin. Flush plate sequentially next to my own prized plate for S3075 from the former Camphill Reservoir pillar. Decent views north and east.

Third visit. For GPS reading and up to date photographs. Overall approach from the north. Ample parking outside church in Carrington Village at NT318605. Followed road SE out of village to field entrance at NT321602. From there it is a beeline to the pillar along the NW edge of first field, and a walk along tramlines in the second field to the wild meadow mound where the pillar stands. Column in very good order. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces ENE, ~64°. Vented through SW sight hole. Much surrounded by woodland but Allermuir Hill, Arthurs Seat and Dundreich still rise above.

Lovely spot, a limestone knoll stillwith some flowers left.They had replanted already, but easy to get at from the south as there is a big area of rough grassland, no crops. Very good condtion

Crops all gone so access dead easy. Yet more typical Lothian farmland with views to the Pentlands. Got a partial drenching on the way out.

The Carrington triangulation pillar is a half mile south of the Midlothian village of Carrington, two miles west of Gorebridge. The pillar stands atop a large grassy mound in the middle of an arable field. The southwest corner of the field is not planted, so the trig should be approached from the south to avoid damaging crops. This is the perfect trig pillar, not a hairline crack to be seen. The spider is complete. The OS plug has shallow engraved font. The plug is only affixed with one Allen Screw, the holes for the other screw are mis-aligned and so the plug could have never been secured by two. The flush bracket faces ENE. Views to Allermuir Hill, Braid Hills, Blackford Hill, Arthurs Seat, Fife and the ill fated Camphill Resr, once home to trig S3075 (deceased). S3076, revisited and photographed 21/05/2003, GRP. Weather, cloudy but dry.

The ideal trig pillar. Apart from the usual lack of paint, S3076 at is in excellent condition, not a crack to be seen.
Aspect to Allermuir Hill. Trig pillar S3076 lined up with Allermuir Hill, home to S3092.
Aspect to Gorebridge. The Midlothian town of Gorebridge. The quarried area on the skyline above was home to the Camphill Resr trig (fb S3075) sadly consumed by the opencast mine.
Flush Bracket S3076 S3071 to S3082 were all in this area. S3075 (Camphill Resr) now lost - see above.

First visit. To record FB number. HISTORY The pillar was completed in September 1943 costing £4.17s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NT48/T28 in the Edinburgh secondary block during 1943. The flush bracket was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in June 1960. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in July 1981.
