The trig archive spreadsheet records the bolt as extant, but the vane as destroyed as at 09/72. The bolt was inaccessible. But there is a vane on the tower, in the form of a sailing ship. It is evidently a replacement, installed after 1972. A photograph from 1948 at www.salthousehistory.co.uk has a caption stating ‘The cock weather vane, made by Mr Graveling in his smithy by the Dun Cow, is visible on the tower’. The vane was positioned at the west side of the tower, not centrally as is the current vane. The church, St Nicholas, dates from about 1500.
