Walked up from Dent in mixed weather - route straightforward, if soggy underfoot! Views from the top potentially incredible - alas Lake District hills were hazy at best - but a great lookout point in clear weather, I am sure, with the added benefit of not having the same footfall as certain near-neighbours. I guess it would also be a great place to view the night sky - maybe that is my next trip with a telescope!

Devised a Barbondale Skyline route from Barbon which would make a fantastic fell race. Visiting Crag Hill for the pillar. I approached from Bull Pot Farm onto Crag Hill, Great Coum, Occupation Road and returned to Barbon via Calf Top and Castle Knot. Purposefully didn't finish until 19.45, love evenings alone and on the hills. Gifted to commercial and wild berries which have been abundant this year. Never seen so many brambles laden with juicy blackberries.

Something for everyone today. Drove up from Kingsdale via a grope around Yordas Cave (found out our torch wasn't good enough). Then watched some hang gliders doing their thing on White Shaw Moss before setting off up Occupation Road towards Great Coum. At Blea Gills we left the track and headed for the ridge and the old 3 county marker stone- the meeting point of Lancs, Westmorland and West Riding of Yorks. From that point we headed NW for the top of Crag Hill. I hadn't thought too much about the views but in the last few yards a wonderful panorama westwards opened up. The pillar has a nice circular surround and today was sporting a 3 red stars motif. Rounded off the day with a dip in the waterfall pool at the side of the road in beautiful Deepdale

We hopped a gate near the quarry marked on the map near to the Megger Stones but however you get up this steep bit you need to hit the wall corner at SD705847. You can then keep this wall on your left all the way to the summit of Great Coum. Crag Hill trig then lies along the summit WSW. It is an amazing place, quiet, and with probably better views than some of its more famous (and busier) Dales tops. Save for a clear day and enjoy.

Retraced my steps to the County stone then descended east to the bridleway which took me back to the Dent road, from here it was a long tarmac slog back to the car.

Could not see a thing. Calf Top fleeting appeared above the mist, but then went for ever. Snow along the walls was frozen hard - easy to walk on. I used some of it to clean my flask out after my chicken soup. Pillar scribbeld on, The N face is more like NW, not north. No plug, whereas some of the older photos show one. Went straight up from Dent, right at the green lane, 450m to track leaving south, eventually following wall all the way up. Back via Great Coum

Wind was biting and very strong - is this really July? Graffiti still evident on the pillar - why it needs its grid reference painted on it I dont know. The N obviously signifies the direction that face points.

Came up from Leck Fell House via Gragareth, Green Hill and Great Coum. Good to see that new stiles have been put in on the two walls on Great Coum - must be as a result of Open Access. Very wet underfoot all the way up despite recent dry weather. Good middle distance views today but haze in the far distance - Morecambe Bay barely visible. This trig point is only 30 yards inside the National Park but nonetheless must therefore be visited! Ease Gill on the descent a fascinating place - Cow Dubs very impressive.
