First trig bag in exactly a year! Lovely being able to see the pillar from where we parked, and only a short walk to it. Great views from the top of the hill across to Edinburgh, the Forth Bridges etc and a lovely sunny day too. Lots of cows in the field but luckily they were all scared of us and ran the opposite way!

Parked on verge in front of gate with stile and footpath sign. Followed to where gateway is missing gate and took path that pretty much lines up with trig. Might be boggy if wet, through gorse bushes to gate way with partly fallen wall and up to trig. Back the same way. Great views again.

Dalmahoy Hill is on the western outskirts of Edinburgh, nearly 9 miles from the city centre. Access to this hill is not easy. There are quarries to the north and east, a landfill site to the west and the land to the south is very boggy. A right of way leaves the A70 at NT151665 and is probably the best approach. Take care whilst walking round the quarry edges to east end of the hill.
