From Overtoun House. Second time at this one. Blowing a gale at the top both times. Good views and well managed track within the Woodland Trust land. Beyond there and particularly near the hill it's v boggy.

Second of a run over a trio of trigs starting at the old Cochno Waterworks and taking in Duncolm Hill, Doughnot Hill and The Slacks. Took the direct route from Duncolm. More very boggy going, but great fun, and just think of how fit it makes you....... Lovely views to Loch Lomond and to the Clyde Estuary.

Cap with raised lettering inside spider dedicated to *Jambo* and friends, curiously bluey-white graffiti wearing thin over the cracks spreading on all faces with all the sights open. A bit cloudy today to fully appreciate the glorious Western horizon.. Port Glasgow *hello Mum* all the way over the distant Arrochar Alps to the Northern Trossachs and Lomond. Limited time restricted me to only one pillar today, so Duncolm and Slacks will need to wait. Followed Descartes direction and kept the spagnum n tussocks to less than a km - cheers Bro! My favorite view was actually from halfway up.. a very neat 180 of the length of the Clyde valley, from the Firth beyond Gourock, overlooking the Erskine Bridge and the endless sprawl to the Eastern horizon of Glasgow City.

Very good condition pillar on a subtly prominent hill in the Kilpatricks. Doughnot Hill is very obvious approaching from Duncolm, yet almost totally invisible from the west. Nice. FB faces north-west-ish with all sightholes open and clear with the bolt clearly visible. Cap present with raised lettering. Some graffiti on the pillar and some minor cracking. The views from here are excellent across to Loch Lomond and back towards the Campsies. I came directly from Duncolm which was, in retrospect, a lot of effort with a tussocky and sphagnum-infested slog. I returned via Black Linn reservoir which has a metalled road leading off from it. I took the turn towards Loch Humphrey expecting a slog through the forest (or along the lochside...) but! there's a new path on the south side of the loch which hooks up with the Kilpatrick Braes path. So! If you're doing Duncolm and Doughnot in one go, do Duncolm, return to the new path, then do Doughnot.....

Kicking my way through the snowy heather from Gallangad Muir was a fair drag on the sections without a forestry track. A distinctive peak as viewed from the north but presumably less so from the east. The cloud filled in while I was on my way up but the views to the north were still fairly extensive.

First visit. To record FB number. HISTORY: Pillar completed 20th March 1949 costing £18.8s.3d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS29/T40 in 1952. Levelled for height also in 1952. Last maintained by the OS in October 1971. SITE VISIT: Flush bracket faces west. Spider has an OS cap with raised lettering which is not the original. These are only normally found on pillars dating from the mid fifties onwards. Unlike its near neighbours, this is not a Glaswegian NS77 pillar from 1946, their flush brackets were all in the range from S35** to S39**. With a FB number like S5142 this pillar is part of newer Secondary Block NS29 which covers the much wilder lands to the west of here. It is probable that there was a tertiary connection with S3664 (The Slacks) despite its association with a separate secondary block.
