Two girls were feeding their horses when I arrived. They told me dad was in the silage pit. By the time I got there I spied dad departing on his tractor to spread some muck somewhere. Given permission is normally given I carried on. Inquisitive bullocks in the field. Former Cold War communications bunker adjacent to pillar.

One of seven trigs bagged along the A66 corridor, making my way to Keswick for the bank holiday weekend. This was the sixth. I parked near Wilson House on Norbeck Bank Follow the PROW before turning left at the gate towards the pillar on top of the hill. The pillar appears to be in generally good condition but the foundations are partly exposed and the centre of the spider is missing. Good views of the surrounding area.

Parked up next to Wilson House and had a quick look to ask permission to enter field. No one around so walked along FP to field gate. Could see a farmer on quad bike moving some cows, but as we approached he headed off further down the lane. As it was a short distance, entered field and walked over to pillar. Sheep today, no Bull. As we got back to the car farmer showed up, I told him we'd nipped into the field and he was cool with that. Said anyone is welcome as long as they follow countryside code. I guess it's polite to ask, but if no one around fine to visit.

Visible and although on private land quite accessible. I approached from the footpath to the east and just had to straddle one low barbed wire fence. I actually only got to within about five yards of the pillar. It was a case of bull one, wimp zero. There was a sizeable bull near to the trig laying down quietly chewing the cud but as I approached he decided to get up and head towards me. Not wishing it to be a re-run of a one on one Pamplona bull run I beat a hasty retreat! I was after all not on a public access area so did not discuss his temprement with him. I could have hid in the nearby reservoir building but did not have provisions for an overnight stay. Pillar looked to be in good condition and there were some nice all round views.
