On night shift at Seal Sands / 'Boro for the last 3 weeks but tonight it got cancelled at the last minute. Not much else to do so went to a womble. Parked at Gribdale Gate - Capt Cooks Car Park. Followed the Cleveland Way for a good bit, then a good 4x4 track along the fence to the trig. Starry sky and half moon gave way to gales and heavy rain towards the end of the wimble womble. . . . Mrs A1M reckons I have finally lost the plot with doing these in the dark now.

A new pillar for me, and #73 for my little companion. After a walk up Roseberry Topping, we headed up to Guisborough and parked at the end of Belmangate as it leads to the PROW. We made our way uphill on the mix of tracks, woodland trails and a bit of bushwacking and came out on the moor. The pillar sits next to a good shooting track from the footpath, so no heather bashing required. It's in fine condition, but has "NO BIKES" glaringly sprayed on it and it has no cap, which spoils it considerably. The views are stunning in every direction, though. Down to just 3 NYMNP pillars outstanding.

There’s a parking area at the top of the road leading to the Gracelands Care Home, on the north side of the wood. From there, it’s a steep(ish) climb through the woods until you exit on the south side of the tree line. There is a lot of logging activity at the moment so you’ll need to keep an eye out for vehicles and machinery moving along the tracks. When you exit the wood, just to the east of the pillar, go through the gate and follow a faint trail west until you meet up with the track south to the pillar. Don’t follow the track on the tree side of the fence as there is no access to the moor along there. The pillar is being used as a notice board with ‘NO BIKES’ being painted on one side. The centre plug has been removed but apart from that, it’s in good condition. You can see a long way in most directions, the rolling moorland pleasant enough but not spectacular. At 1074 feet above sea level, this was the highest trig-point I visited on this three day expedition, but not the toughest climb…. That came next at Roseberry Topping.

A pleasant and steady walk up through the woods from Guisborough. Bagged on my way to Clevelands County top a couple of miles further south east from the trig. Good views over the moor including Captain Cooks Monument. Trig in good condition apart from missing plug.
