Trig was in a field of horses, therefore I just walked up the field on the other side of the fence for a photo and left the horses in peace. Can be accessed by hopping a fence into the adjacent field from a lay-by.

This is our first Yorkshire and out of home county trig!We had a mission to find this one! In the end the best advice from us who travelled from Pickering is to drive up Dog kennel lane until the road bends to the left and there is a dead end road sign on the right. Turn right and follow this lane until you see an old brick wall ? Old railway bridge. Park opposite and then take a track to your right up to the line of fences. Follow it along for a very short way and the trig is in this corner of the field behind an electric fence - we didnt go over!

This one proved a little more tricky than expected. I walked up from Thornton-le-Dale and came up on the layby at the north-west field corner. Unfortunately, although it was late evening, so there wasn't a soul about, the field was full of horses. The pillar is visible from the fenced corner, but there were half a dozen big nags between me and the trig. Instead of nipping over the wooden fence then, I followed the outside of the (not electrified) wire fence straight to the pillar. You're visible from the barns to the south, but there was no sign of activity; eventually the horses moved away. I climbed over the wire fence as carefully and quietly as possible, but the very second I touched down on the grass, it alerted every horse in the field, who spooked, and all started coming in. I managed to touch the pillar and grab a couple of quick pictures and then scarpered. I didn't hang about and was away to the lane. If there are no horses about, this one is a very easy 'trespass trig'; if the horses are present, it depends how comfortable/confident you are amongst them. The pillar, as others have mentioned, appears brand new. It's very smooth and unweathered, and has an original cap.

I accessed the field by climbing the high gate which is adjacent to where the southward footpath starts from Longlands Lane. This avoids the electric strip which runs around the top of the field fence. The pillar is in the north-east corner of this field, by a fence to another field in use by horses. No horses in the pillar field today.
