From the parking area near the Devils Beef Tub view point. Followed the path / quad tracks all the way to the trig keeping the fence insight at all times due to the 20m visibility and gusty buffeting wind.

A walk in via Annanhead Hill trigpoint and along the path via various hills to Hart Fell, approaching from the steep side! Glorious weather and views throughout, worth the wait having cancelled the last planned attempt due to the weather earlier in the year. With Alma Aurea and Hitman9956.

A very pleasant day for mid February with scenic long range views and mild temperatures to leisurely enjoy up at the top for half an hour or so this afternoon.

My second visit, different route - parked on the A701 by track up to Annanhead Hill and continued E over Great Hill, Chalk Rig Edge, Whitehope Heights and The Gyle before a v sharp descent at Barry Grain Rig and subsequent re-ascent up Hartfell Shoulder, gradient easing at 700m. Sky cloudless; views outstanding and far reaching in all directions. Return route SW down to Ericstane then N to Corehead and up the Strait Step path. An absolutely brilliant day, I've scored this 10/10 but if I could I'd award 67/10.

Started off sunny but then I was saved as the sun went behind cloud cooling it down misty on the tops. The trig has a tarmac plug also a Corbett top and at 808 metres the highest I've been this year . Went very warm on way down luckily had a fresh base layer to change into for my next trig.

Parked at the village hall and followed the 'Public Path' to the trig. Almost every step of the 3.5 miles to the pillar is uphill. Great day for it though - sunny, light breeze, excellent visibility. Magnificent distant views from the summit.

Slog gives way to an unexpectedly varied mountain and moor scape. Creiffel tomorrow's destination, glides in the coast fog/cloud, Cheviot is snow rimmed, great to see the Eildons puncturing the skyline. Clear here but with a gleam of haze, Lake District hazy and the NW in high grey cloud blanket.

From the Moffat to Ericstane road parked at the corrugated village at hall then followed the Hartfell Spa footpath and the quad track via Well Rig and Arthur's Seat to the Hart Fell summit. Dodged the showers until within 20 minutes of the summit when the cloud came down. Partial views only unfortunately, typical Scottish July.

3 rd visit to this Trig Point (and summit) this time as part of my Watershed walk. This was in stunning conditions but as I was on a multiday walk I had problems getting enough water on the Watershed,. Came from Birkhill and continued to Annanhead then Flecket Hill before crossing the A701

Revisit. Approached from north. Car park by north end of Fruid Reservoir at NT088205 where the public road ends. Followed farm/resr road southeast to Fruid Farm on foot continuing via track to bridge over Fruid water. Leaving the track just beyond the bridge, there is a feintly pather route via Birk Craigs and Summerside Knowe. Open grazing hills, the pillar stands southeast of junction of fences. Column in good condition. Spider centre filled with tar. Flush bracket faces SSE, ~158°. Vented through SE and NW sight holes, innards filled with moss. Long distance 360° panoramic views include Criffell, Green Lowther, Tinto, Culter Fell, West Lomond, Scald Law, Broad Law, Dollar Law, Dunrig and many of the Pennine and Lakeland tops.

No better way to spend a birthday, Spectacular 14 mile circular bagging 9 mountains and one trig, bagged Carrifran Gans, White Coomb, Firthhope Rig, Under Saddle Yoke, Saddle Yoke, Hart Fell, Falcon Craig, Swatte Fell and Nether Coomb Craig in perfect clear and sunny weather, hardly anyone around, such an underrated area. Up from Fruid, a very pleasant route. Mountain rescue exercise on , so folk wandering off in strange directions. Threat of a power station to west, as we are getting one by the M74, could they not leave the last decent sized bit of unroaded Southern Uplands alone - dont give a *** about the windmills, its those roads!

Pillar completed 20th May 1936 costing £21.12s.2d. Computed as primary triangulation station PP320 within Figure 3 of the OSGB retriangulation during 1937. Levelled to class two precision in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in July 1977. SITE VISIT Hart Fell is just in Dumfriesshire, by its boundary with Peeblesshire. There are numerous possible routes to this summit. I followed a route along the tops from Annanhead Hill (NT058132) and continued to Garelet Hill (NT124201), before walking onto Peebles. This pillar is still in reasonable condition. It is partially protected from the weather by a wind shelter. The spider centre is plugged with asphalt. The flush bracket is on the southeast face of the pillar.
