Up from the A701 through a beech and oak wood with no fences and on to the road used by the Annandale Way. The path to the trig on the 1:25k map has been planted over but it is easy to go around the young trees by a newish road and deer path to meet a ride surrounded by windthrow. The ride goes easily, trees falling parallel with the path and not blocking it.

Parked in a nearby forestry road and followed the Annandale Way. Maybe it was the heat but I found this tougher than it should have been. At a point nearest the pillar, at a right hand bend, set off into the new plantation that will soon be impassable and gained the mature trees. Pillar found at the highest point.

Parked at ny072953. A lovely walk southward following the Annandale Way. At ny077952 I detoured off this track and navigated first through young conifers then much more established plantation. The gaps between trees allows for easy access. Pillar is covered in a fine layer of moss or lichen. Spider plug intact. No views from the pillar. However the walk along Annandale Way do provide great view especially west across to the Lowther Hills.

Parked on forestry track just off A701 at Kinnelholm Rig. Followed Annandale Way to track which goes off left south of the trig. Easy passage from here at the moment through felled area to trig in forest next to old pen. Returned back to main track again following AW signs to Road at blackburn cottage, followed road to St.Ann’s bridge which we crossed and took track through Raehills grounds back to the car to make this into a very pleasant 6 mile circular walk. So annoying when you load your pics and they end up sideways grrr

Parked on stony verge NY 07194 95348, took Annandale Way until the faint track branched off towards the trig, crossing a ditch. Tried to follow track but kept disappearing. Then into the spooky dark mossy wood to find the trig next to what must have been a pheasant pen. Back his same route but found some logs filling ditch which made crossing easier. Once back at car I really struggled to get off the stones and wouldn’t recommend anyone parking on these. Use the layby 200m down the road NY 07177 94921.

Followed the tinkling Kinnelhall Burn, noticing a small waterfall nearby, climbed one barbed wire fence, joined a forest track then up through some fallen trees to enter the dark woods. Naturally no views, but a fine visit nonetheless.

Considerable felling on south and west slopes means that although tip is still wooded, there is only a60 metre south facing ride to walk up to the very mossy trig. Deeply atmospheric with low west sun filtering through the wind swaying pines creating a dancing pattern of dappled light on the dark green moss just like a mini northern lights or imagining fairies dancing on the velvety surface!!
