Parked in the road at NO 24676 49047. Then walked up Cataran Trail to gate at NO 2488 4989, then took paths heading in the direction of the trigpoint through the gorse all the way to the trig. Lovely walk and lovely view when you get there.

A day (unintentionally) of Toposcopes, having done Ben Cleugh earlier (which doesn’t point out this hill) we could find Ben Cleugh from the view-finder on this hill. Plan for today was to plant Storm's first flags in Central Region and Tayside Region, Tayside was meant to be Mount Blair but I’d underestimated Ben Cleugh completely, both in time taken (much longer) and knees (knackered) so this was a much easier option! And a great substitute it was too, lovely views from a delightful area of common land. Returned to village for bonus IS of the church spire.

Strayed from the Cateran Trail to visit this one. As I approached the trigpoint, crunching through virgin snow, I was delighted to see a pair of lapwings/plovers/peewits (isn't it a fine thing to be known by three names?) performing what I can only describe as some elaborate courtship exhibition characterised by much swooping and fluttering, and highlighted by that unique pleading, piping sound. Perhaps they were also excited by the sight of this pillar which was in good condition, with its cap infilled with asphalt.
