Arrived from the North, having visited Pool Hill. 3 Dog walkers there. One of them was very chatty, kept me there for half an hour. And his dog (Ted) took a liking for my leg :( Lovely spot with 360° views. The pillar has a few memorial plaques on. Back to the car at Upper Denby to complete a 10 mile circular walk.

Parked on Hamper Lane. Took the public rights of way from there up to the pillar, which involved heading first north east, then north west, and then north east.The cap was missing, so I replaced it.

Circular run from Scissett taking in the Trigs at Pool Hill then Hoyland Swaine on a lovely bright February afternoon. The pillar is in good condition - with three memorial plaques fitted - with great views of the surroundings.

Short stroll from Haigh Head Road in the village, great views, 3 memorials on the pillar.

Lots and lots of snow helped to add interest to a circular walk heading from here to Pool Hill. A very accessible pillar on a PRoW from Hoylandswaine. Passed through some lovely woodland today and all on new paths. Milky Coffees are gifted today, cafes always get 10/10 if still offering this retro drink. It was a milky coffee day.

Muddy track Passed a vets practice up to stile on the left easy find .Across a field full of recent muck spreading Some damage to the top plate as the plug is missing and there are three memorial plates screwed on, RIP ?

Early morning walk from Cubley Hall, Penistone. Walked down through town, along A628, A629 then up a muddy Hamper Lane taking footpaths along field edges. Pillar in good condition with FB in place, white paint coat and filled plug. Some memorials affixed. Too early to fully appreciate the views which are open. Did see a lovely dawn break over Barnsley. Returned same way before going to work.

(1627) Didn't seem to be much in the way of parking options on the A629, so ended up down Haigh Head Road. Followed the PRoW from there to the pillar. Pillar soon reached - centre cap non original, part of the foundations are exposed, but otherwise in good nick. Adorned with 3 memorial plaques. And even on a bleak day, the views was pretty decent. Pillar history: Built on the 15th of March 1937, cost not listed in the records. Last maintained by the OS in June of 1987.

trig no 4 parked on the a 629 you could almost see the trig from the car just a 5 minute walk it was tempting to sit awhile but we had to move on

Parked on the A629 and followed the footpath straight to the pillar. The second one today with a handy bench to sit and admire the views which were excellent today. Three plaques attached in memory of others.

Gorgeous spot the sound of yellowhammers drowns out the suburban roads. Showers gllom Bleaklow in the distance, a sense of the Ouse and Humber with Emley mast peeping above the fields.

Out with my walking group - The Irregulars, LDWA - and our route passed nearby so this was an ideal opportunity to make a slight detour to this pillar. We came up the footpath from Hoylandswaine then cut across field side when pillar came into view. Then followed passing footpath back down to track. Extensive views of the surrounding area and a nice seat to sit on to take them in. Accompanied by Applepye and Melch.

Parked way down at Wortley and walked up the TPT to Oxspring, then up to Hoylandswaine. Top temperature today was -4 but the trig offered superb snowy views all around. Bench would be of use if not covered in snow ha ha! Good nick, painted and with memorial plaque on side. Easy to find too next to path. Check out the Upper Don if you have time too - some really beautiful spots on the river once you have quenched your bagging thirst.

Great views and a bench at the top. What more could you ask for. Parked in the housing estate rather than on the main road and walked on the public foot path from there.

This is a much better trig and place than I had anticipated, its a nice area with lovely views. I approached like some others before me from the village of Hoylandswaine on the path along Hamper Lane. There has been a remembrance plaque attached to the trig now and there was a selection of giant fungi close to the trig when I was there. I'm afraid I got trigger happy with the camera!

Surprisingly good views in all directons - sunny, very cold, autumnal day but a bit hazy so the photo's are't too clear. Paths a bit muddy today reaching the trig despite the frost. Easy access along the ROW.
