Fairly boggy fields but any easy trig to bag. One of four today.

Parked on Park Lane. Took the public right of way (PRoW) from SD 47732 49861. Although the route is a PRoW, it is not a defined track as such. The conditions under foot were something of a quagmire, due to all the recent rain. Moreover, a stile and one of the two foot bridges that need to be negotiated along the way were in a very poor state. Left the PRoW at SD 46897 49772 by entering the trig field, and headed south west up to the pillar.

Furthest north that I've made it for a while and what a treat. Homage to Forton services then into the winding lanes, Old bridges across the old drains, shelducks, lapwing, skylark and some endearing sheep. Next stop Cockerham the birds, abbey and a gorgeous sunset.

Walked in past Hardhead to Lathwaite past a menagerie of animals including some very cute looking ferrets. Lathwaite is a working diary farm with all the smells that accompany this, then through gate and into meadow where trig is located. Although on PROW still felt a little uncomfortable.

Form Stoney west Lane followed ROW through Farm and fields till adjacent to Trig, Stepped over Fence to Trig which sits in a Meadow close to Farm , It is in Good Condition with all Sight Holes open , the Cap is Original and the FB faces 270. Returned same way, 360 Views of the farm , meadows and pylons

Good condition pillar in field. FB faces west-ish with all sightholes open except west-ish (but blocked internally). Cap present with sunken lettering. OK views. Parked at Lathwaite Farm and, with permission from farmer, went round the back of the farm and across the field.

Found on bike ride down rough, muddy farm tracks. Footpath access from farm unclear but 100m East of farm, climb gate and head for last of 4 big trees. 2 minute walk.

HISTORY: Pillar built in March 1949 costing £6.17s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD47/T33 within the Barrow-in-Furness block during 1950. Levelled for height in 1960. Last maintained by the OS in April 1976. SITE VISIT: Approached from southwest. Parked opposite south end of Crimbles Lane to south of junction of Lanes at SD460493. Followed road which continues as farm track anti-clockwise around cluster of farm buildings where a gate leads eastwards into trig field. With friendly farmers' kind permission, through gate, direct to pillar keeping south of fence which divides field from mapped RoW. Column in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces west ~259°. Vented through north and east sight holes. Open skyline in most directions.

Talked to Gary McCabe beside his narrowboat and shed. Then walked to Forton Hall Farm to use footpath to get near trig after 2 footbridges. Then over/under a fence to collect trig near Lathwaite Farm.

Joint visit with Carole. We actually drove right up the the farm and were kindly allowed to park there. Then we were shown how to reach the pillar but with a warning "it's muddy". This proved to be correct. The pillar is in very good condition but somewhat manure splattered but still retains an original metal indented lettered plug.

Parked on Stony Lane West. I then followed footpaths through farmyard, past several cow fields to trig, which was on other side of a barbed wire fence. Uninteresting spot.

Footpath from hardhead does not actually connect with path to the pillar. Lady in farm yard seemed quite relaxed about this. and readily gave permission. The cows in the field totally ignored us.
