First of four today the first three on an 8.7 miles run/walk - Knarr Hill and Kelbrook Moor to follow. Parked in an informal layby (space for 1 car only at the start of the track to Flass Farm, so this was an out and back entering the trig field via the stile in the NW corner. A sheep and two lambs were chilling by the trig when I arrived.

(433) I discretely parked the car at the far end of the overflow carpark at the Alma Inn (not that the lovely staff at the pub would mind, to be fair) close to where the PROW runs through and into the trig field. The pillar is visible from the carpark itself, only a short way across the pasture, a very short diversion from the PROW line. It is a bit battle-scarred, with a few dents and repair patches, and a replacement cap. Nice views, and a very straightforward and accessible trig to start my walk.

2nd trig of today's walk. Approached from the North through farmland then Skipton Old Rd and Long Lane, then right past the Alma Inn and into the trig field via the stile. Great condition. Fine location and and enjoyable one to visit. Heading to Knarr Hill next.

Sun's out, the real ale is lovely... Dark Star and Moorhouses, walking in this years favourite area - where Lancashire, North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire converge. Stop at Colne on the way, independent book shop and independent coffee shop. Next stop Sheep Hill.

Not the best of days to see much with gloomy cloud on all the surrounding hills and rain in the air. But when you're in Boundary Mill Shopping Experience (or whatever it's called) and you can say to the Mrs, "I'll just nip up the nearest hill to bag a trig"; then this is a wonderful place.

I walked up from the Emmott Arms on a revisit after arriving on the M4 Keighley bus from Colne.On the way up I visited Flass Holy Well NE of the pillar,then made my way to Skipton road via Castle road to catch the M1 Barnoldswick bus home.Xmas shopping with the Mrs next on the agenda.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 18th March 1949 costing £10.10s.4d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD96/T27 in 1951. Levelled for height in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in May 1976. SITE VISIT: Parking for one car in layby, north side of road beside park bench just west of junction at SD916412. Mapped RoW via pub grounds continues across trig pasture. Well populated grazing field, sheep sh*t everywhere. Pillar in good condition. Spider fitted with plastic cap by JWR, 7/05/2000. Flush bracket faces WSW, ~247°. Vented through SW and NW sight holes. 315° open outlook, NNE to ENE blocked by trees on higher ground by pub.

An after the event logging from a visit prior to finding this site. [Re-visited 01/03/09 updated grid reference and took photos. Pillar is in good condition easily accessible from footpath. Good views of surrounding area.]

dont trust a sat nav if coming here from Thornton it may take you down a very narrow road from Foulridge to get here. Far better to come in on the southern route. Easy access in a muckspread field

Repairs to 3 vertical corners. Plastic plug. Found on a public footpath at the back of The Alma pub. Great fisherman's pie. Stuffed!

Easy access from pub carpark. Trig has been patch repaired at some time - possibly with 'pillafilla' (ho,ho,ho). Plug replaced with plastic insert.
