Good parking in the layby at Sk126412 then followed footpaths up to the hill before heading up the south ridge. Note the pillar is on the east side of the wall. Made a circular walk of it by carrying on to pick up the footpath near Upper Mudsen before following this back around the hill to return to the uphill path.

Parked on the lane and took the bridle way which was incredibly muddy. Climbed over the fence at the end as unsure where the footpath went and walked over the field until we saw the ladder stile. Once over, we headed right and upwards for a steep climb up to the summit. Trig was hard to spot but W3W soon had us on the right track, trig is tucked behind the wall. Fierce wind and cold but good views to be had in amongst the hail showers. Explored the "tunnel" afterwards before returning the same way. No cows in any of the fields today but some sheep.

Membership to the National Trust allows me free parking at Ilam Hall. A steep grassy climb westward to Upper Musden and a derelict farm. From this location I chose to walk west/north side of stone wall to pillar. The trig is situated on east side of stone wall. Great views especially east to Bunster Hill and Thorpe. Spider plug has a plastic cap infill and flush bracket faces northeast. Cattle grazing near this pillar. Went on to explore the lovely village/hamlet of Ilam.

One of eight trig points bagged in the south of the Peak District. This was the third. I parked just outside Calton on Green Lane near the PROW. It would have been much easier to pass through a small corner of the farm yard but the stiles were awkwardly configured to take you through the same corner but in a slightly smaller part of the farmyard. Em.... the pillar is just off the PROW behind a drystone wall with barbed wire. It is in generally good condition but the original centre for the spider has been replaced with a plain disc. Good views accross the nearby fells.

Parked near The Waterings Farm. Took the public right of way (PRoW) to the NE of the farm until I was in the field where the pillar is located. Then headed north up to the summit and the pillar. 2 of 9 today in the Derbyshire Dales in and around Ashbourne, Bakewell, and Matlock. This was my 300th trig!

1/2 visited after walking from Weag's Bridge to Ilam on the Manifold Trail. The Peak District Boundary walk from Ilam passes N below this trig, so worth an out and back. Gifted to our four legged companions who are sharing our adventures. Always by our side and uncomplaining.....thank God!!

A squelch up, nice to see what it looks like from other photos on the site! Lots of fieldfares and starlings about, Manifold has a good flow on it too for a change.

Parked at start of track SE of pillar and walked up. It looks like the farmer is about to reinforce the fence here as there were new fence posts and rolls of wire nearby. Panoramic view.

Walked across from Soles hill for this one. To add a little mileage took a route via Musden Wood into Rushley and then a climb up via the old derelict farm at Upper Musden (suspect this is on somebody's renovation list) Easy walk up to the pillar. Good views especially back to Soles Hill. Return journey back via Carlton and the bike trail to the Car park at Weags Br.

Parked on Green lane and followed the green dot route northeast across three fields to shoulder of hill then followed wall line south east to trig on top of hill. The trig point is over the wall on the east side and guarded by the biggest bull I have ever scene.

Trig bagged under moonlight. Distant lights of Ashbourne and Derby(?) clearly visible to the southeast. Certainly a very memorable experience.

Parked beside St Mary's memorial hall in Calton then headed SE along Back Lane to the crossroad with Green Lane. Continued SE along Green Lane to the PROW that passes behind Green House Farm. Emerging onto Dog Lane I took the PROW SE across fields and then NE around the western flank of Musden Low. After crossing the second stone wall I then used this as cover whilst making my way up to the top. Trig can then be accessed by climbing just the one wall. Trig in good condition but original cap has been replaced with plastic disc. Great views over Ilam. Sat and had my lunch whilst a herd of cows crept up on me from the other side of the hill so I beat a hasty retreat back over the wall and down to the PROW leading to the now derelict Upper Musden Farm. Here I turned N towards Rushley eventually intersecting with another PROW leading down the hill and across the River Manifold into Ilam Country Park. Clockwise circuit of the park then headed N along the Manifold Way to Rushley. Finally returned to Calton along the dry valley of Musden Wood.

What a pretty place Ilam is. Magnificent parkland leading me astray from my intended river crossing, but made me feel all Downton, so that's alright. Then minor disaster. Keeping my eye on the bull in the field I went a little astray and had to navigate around Musden Grange - THE SMELLIEST PLACE IN BRITAIN. (Sorry. Got carried away there.) Once back on track it's some fine views back over Ilam and its sheltering Hill. Be careful of the dead end at Upper Musden. Ilam. Fine place - apart from ....!

Joint visit with Carole. We parked on Green Lane to the south-west and used a track in the direction of the pillar initially then headed off to it. Only one wall/fence to negotiate on nearing the pillar. In good condition although the original metal plug has been replaced by a plastic one sometime in the past. Nice vantage point.

Despite this unfortunate trig being being located in Staffordshire, I need it to get all those on sheet 119. Approached from south west but ended up climbing 2 walls with barb wire as we failed to find gates. Good views over Ilam area.

Walked up from Rushley via edge of Musden Wood then back through remains of Upper Musden farm . Pillar wrong side of fence and wall from this approach FP to the SE would give simpler access.Pillar good shape with fine views of Dovedale.

Park at SK126495 and take path NW along bottom edge of two fields. On ascent in third field veer right to stile then turn tight again up grassy ridge to trig point.

Visited on a loop from Alstonefield, visiting some 100m drop summits. Walked over from Wetton Low. Pillar in good shape, plastic plug replacement.It was somewhat unusual in that the top was flat,no indentations under the anchor points. On to Dovedale.
