First outing on the Oswestry (Chirk, Y Waun, Ellesmere & Pant) 240 OS map in pursuit of as many trigs as I can 'bag' North to South with a 'get home' early afternoon. As it happened seven comfortably...New Marton, Sutton, Bryn-y-wistyn, Llanymynech golf links, Berwyn, Mynydd Myfyr & Oswestry Station. For New Marton parked on-road/off-road at the road bend East GR 34339 34764 & accessed trig both field-side & road-side. For Sutton parked on-road pulled-in close to two large boulders 'cutting-off' access to a field, by the bridge at GR 36112 27333. Crossing the road & stile the trig was but a short distance uphill. For Bryn-y-wistyn parked just off-road pulled-in close to an open gate at GR 32684 23335 & accessing the field followed the fence-line to locate the hedge-engrossed trig. Impossible to walk around, I managed second best thing difficult as it was, climbing on top of it making use of a nearby road cone to 'get a footing'. For Llanymynech golf links parked off-road in a lay-by close to the bridleway 'heading' North-East GR 25910 21681. Initially following the bridleway, a short but steep scramble was necessary with a barbed-wire fence straddle in attaining Asterley Rocks. The trig was then all but a short walk away from the toposcope. For Berwyn parked off-road pulled-in close to the left-hand side of the widened, 'fanned-out' area of Plas Gwyn GR 21136 22711 & crossing the road & 'jumping' a gate proceeded uphill, 'jumping' a coupl'a barbed-wire fences en-route to the trig...Have to say this one 'felt' especially trespassy, in view of all on-hill, 'felt' like a goldfish in a bowl going up & coming down! For Mynydd Myfyr parked on-road pulled-in close to the side at a widened area of roadway GR 24278 27604 & crossing the road, squeezed thro' the hedgerow to proceed uphill onto the trig. For Oswestry Station parked on Monkmoor Road just around the corner from Walford Road GR 29829 29736 & accessing the narrow alleyway atop of Elgar Close, 'taking' a left located the trig in woodland...Shelf Bank a local resident referred to it. Out at 06:00 & back in post a 168 mile 'round trip' from Salford, Manchester at 13:00. A relatively easy morning as 'trigbagging' goes, plenty'a high-hedged, narrow, rutted & pot-holed lanes to contend with & endless mud especially it has to be said in parking about the Bryn-y-wistyn field. The descent from Asterley Rocks in having accessed the Llanymynech golf links trig was one requiring some degree of care & having not parked-up for Oswestry Station on Elgar Close some confusion as to where that was presented. A successful & productive morning leaving just two trigs to get Yr Alt & Breidden Hill to complete the map, with just off map Hargrave Bank if possible.
