(390) With the car needing a long run to do a re-gen ahead of its MOT, I whipped down the motorway for two quick evening trigs so as not to waste the diesel. After Hoyland Swaine, I headed north in the gloom of dusk for this easy (almost) roadsider. There is a handy little pull-in to leave the car, and a worn step up into the field, where the pillar sits on the raised banked boundary of the adjacent field. Going by the trodden path, I'd say this is visited often, despite technically being a brief trespass. There were no crops or livestock to disturb, and you're talking a matter of a few metres really. The pillar is in good, weathered condition but has a replacement cap. Another very easy 5 minute trig.

Parked up in Upper Denby and took a 2 mile indirect walk on a rare, dry day. Up the little bank near "Vegsy's view" Bench. Decent views, in a great location away from potential vandals. A pleasant visit. Hoyland Swaine next.

Last of 3 trigs today. As with others parked in layby up the bank and around the field edge to the trig (which can be seen from the layby). Good views to the north/northwest despite it being a cloudy day.

I included this in an evening walk to visit this summit and High Hoyland Hill. The trig here was an added bonus. Can't believe I parked at the seat at Christmas without noticing this was here! Surprisingly good views here.

Circular run from Scissett taking in the Trigs at Pool Hill then Hoyland Swaine on a lovely bright February afternoon. Pool Hill Trig is just up an embankment in a corner of a field which is easily accessible from the road. The pillar is in generally good condition with great views of the surroundings.

What was a mediocre circular walk from Hoylandswaine turned out to be a cracking good day due to a heavy snowfall yesterday. Conditions were somewhat challenging in some places. Bagged this pillar from the layby with a bench, up a tiny bank and the pillar is just to the East. A gift to "milky coffees", the Italians know "nuffink". We were drinking posh coffees years before latte was invented.

(1630) Parked at the layby - enough room for a couple of cars - on Pool Hill Lane. Pillar easily spotted from there. Bit of a slippery climb, this time of year, into the field. Coat of white paint on the pillar is weathered and in need of being reapplied. Centre cap non original, but all else good. A nice and easy one to bag. Pillar history: Built on the 28th of May 1937, at a cost of £4 12s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in August of 1985.

Plastic cap in corner of the high point of a field a short walk from a convenient adjacent lay-by which the locals seem to use (and its bench) for drinking. We cleaned up all the bottles before we left.

Trig 2/5 Ackworth to Mam Tor Walk. Escaping the wild camp of Deffer Woods, Pool Hill was the early highlight of our second day. Easy access from road just a scramble up the embankment and a little nip over a pushed down barbed wire fence. Views over Barnsley, Wakefield, Woolley Edge, Emley Moor, Haw Cliff and beyond are truly sublime - how nice is our country? - so onto Denby Dale, Shepley and to Holme Valley campsite today. Haw Cliff trigpoint was for another time, but the evening in Holmfirth somewhat made up for that. Well that and Nick bouncing off his tent, but that's another story...

Easily viewed from the minor road. Climb up from the layby and climb over a small wire fence. Trig has great views to the south, nice and sunny.

Looks like a much visited trigpoint – the stone wall at the layby has degraded into a staircase and the barbed wire folded for easy access. Good views over to the High Peak and Emley Moor.

Decent view in all directions. Easy access from the road, low barbed wire simple to straddle. The wind farm application as noted by ted in 2004 has been reduced to an application for 2 wind turbines and was posted 26 Sept 2005 - posters in the area show there is still some opposition to the application (see photo).

Just above the road in the corner of a field. Laybye of sorts on right where you can park on brow. Without going through farmers field at laybye you can approach 25yds NW of laybye then South 25yds through brambles to knoll in corner of field. GPSr gave WGS84 datum as N53deg 34.492 W1 deg 37.610 - Os grid as SE 24807 08762 @791ft

30th anniversay of surviving 300 shotgun pellets in the belly from 9 feet across the landing. Nice peaceful anniversary. At this time 1970 I was prob still under sedation following life saving surgery. Numerologically this is also my son Jamie's 70th birthday trig. I'll be long gone before 1/7/2069!!
