Compare and contrast yesterday! I was really looking forward to this. Every holiday needs a boat trip of some kind, but Ramsey island was to be frank a bit of a disappointment. It was a pleasant enough stroll around the waymarked route, but few of the fauna got the email. Three seals! We didn't even see the sheep! The summit was unspectacular, but it did have the views - much the same ones as yesterday. In way of compensation a Red Kite hovered low overhead as we trudged the last few hundred metres to the harbour.

10am boat from St Justinian's lifeboat slip - boat £11, landing fee now £6. Fine stone built trig 2m S of island's summit point, Carnllundain (a HuMP). Pillar has some damage to the top - missing stone and screed exposing end of one spider arm, otherwise still looks structurally sound. Original cap in place, deeply indented lettering; the pillar has no sight holes that I could see. Fine 360deg views on this lovely sunny summery day.

Came over on the 1000 sailing and made my way really slowly up to Carnllundain, stopping at all the viewpoints on the south end of the island first. 3 pairs of buzzards were hovering over the summit as I approached. I eventually found the 'herd' of Red Deer sunbathing to the north of the trig after a long period scanning through binoculars. Ireland is about 79km away to the northwest so could be visible on a really good day. It's still £15 for the boat and RSPB members get the £4 landing fee back (so it's well worth joining if you haven't already done so). The wardens and volunteers who get to stay on the island for extended periods are very fortunate people. http://www.ramseyisland.com/

Took a boat trip to Ramsey Island which is a RSPB nature reserve. Had a really good day out, beautiful weather, scenery, geology, wildlife and everything was in flower. The boat trip cost £15 and includes entrance fee (cheaper for RSPB members) leaves at 1000, returns at 1600. A brilliant and unspoilt place.
