Had a bit of spare time whist in and around Retford so decided to knock off this fairly unappealing sounding trig. Parked up just past the field entrance at the right hand bend on Tiln Road. Walked back along the road to the end of the trees and hopped over the conveniently low barbed wire fence and around the field edges to the pillar. Another pretty dull rural trig with nothing really of note. Decided to take a different route back but the gate on the bend had copious barbed wire so had to carry on further and negotiate some tricky fencing to get back to the car. The fields around here are depressingly covered with solar panels, such a shame to see good arable land used for something that would be put on factory roofs.

About a mile north of Retford on east side of town, pulled over on roadside near Bolham Hall near a gate on the west side of the road with barbed wire wound around the top. Went around gate through hedge and what I thought was west along field edge. But when buildings appeared ahead through the mist decided I must have headed too far south. Turned 90 degrees, headed over a rough field boundary and across a stubble field, a hedge emerged from the mist to the right. It was a combination of luck and judgment that brought me to the pillar in the hedge. No obvious high point. Spider and cap in place, slightly offset from centre. Very limited views of field due to mist at the time. The location has taken its name from the sewage works on the other side of the river to the west, Bolham would have been better as there doesn’t appear to be a direct route to here from the west.

Parked outside the boxing club on Bolham Lane as Tiln Lane was quite flooded. Walked along Tiln Lane where we easily spotted the trig pillar across the fields. Locked gate meant we walked beyond to a small wooded area where we found a gap and hopped through. Followed the field edges for an easy bag and a steady walk back. 1.2 miles in total

Parked outside the boxing club and walked along tiln lane. Passed a dog walker who lived at the property opposite the trig pillar field. He actually told me where it was and told me I would be okay. Going in the trig field. Crops were all high so got quite wet.

(3128) Good parking spot outside the derelict boxing club on Bolham Way. Accessed the field through gap in hedge on Tiln Lane. Easy enough walk along the (fairly narrow) margins and small wooded area to the trig. Ensconced in a hedge but all relevant parts visible still. Not a lot a room to manoeuvre for photos though due to the adjacent crop. This one was amongst a handful of stragglers in the Retford area for me, so good to finally tick it off the list. Pillar history: Built on the 9th of November 1948, at a cost of £8 8s 10d. Last maintained by the OS in December of 1982.

Parked at the side of the A road. Walked up to the easiest looking place to jump the barbed wire fence and hop over the potentially electric wire, then walked through the field up to the trig. Not an easy one to get to.

Loved finding this one, completely hidden in tall ripe corn. In hedge line between 2 fields on rise above river Idle. All intact, mossy and views completely obscured by corn. Access via small copse from lane.

Ruddy start of a blister by this time and a long walk back to Ranby via Retford. Walked along River Idle from 685829 trig then N along minor road (Tiln Lane) past Bolham Hall. Climbed over gate into field (just after Retford FC pitch) followed S edge of field then two thirds north (about) along W edge to get to trig.Trig is in good condition but more accessible from the adjacent field on the west. Barbed wire everywhere. Rolling fields and power station clouds for views. Why 'Retford Sewage Works'?

Not the easiest one to get to at this time of the year as all the surrounding fields are under cultivation with corn on the cob. I straddled the barbed wire fence and went through the small patch of woodland and then through overgrown field edges to reach the pillar. Once there pillar is in good condition and still has an original plug.

No real problem to get to, walking along field boundary. The pillar has the original plug - slightly indented letters. All sightholes closed. No real traces of paint. No significant views from here.

I approached via the west side of the small wood a little further along Tiln Lane. As a result, I only encountered some low, rusty barbed wire and no electric fence. Some buildings to the SE look as though they could have been part of a sewage treatment works. My 1968 One-Inch sheet 103 labels them as "works". GR to 10m only.

As the HEATHENS say the trespass is quite easy, potentially involving a barbed wire fence and an elctric fence, but you are out of view most of the time. Plug with indented lettering.
