Ample parking space at sk224780. A rough road west, not suitable for cars, leads to a style at sk217779 that allows access north over a stone wall. Footpath to pillar. Trig is pristine. Spider plug is missing and flush bracket faces southwest. Low cloud and heavy rain showers limit the views today.

2nd trig of today's hike (1st was White Edge). I headed North from Eyam, up some rather steep paths until I reached Sir William Hill Rd. Very windy up there today, spectacular views and the trig looks in excellent condition. Back onto aforementioned Rd and towards Grindleford Train Station where I got the 19.39 back to Manchester.

Beautiful open location, very easy to reach on foot or by car, we combined it with a visit to Eyam, the plague village, which I could not recommend highly enough, so interesting and heart breaking at the same time.

I've visited this trig many times over the year as I like this area, finally officially bagging it this time. Came from the north down the ridge, and then back along the wall to the stile. Really disappointed to see the damage to the wall by people who can't be bothered to walk to the stile.

Very cold day to be out but beautiful blue sky’s made it worthwhile. This was the last point of call on a circular walk from Bretton. The views were great from the trig. I believe this can also be accessed from local lanes. Trig was in great condition

Walked up from Eyam, past the mast (keeping to the path along the side of the field), over the stile, crossed the road, over another stile and took the footpath straight up to the trig - easy to find, no need to be climbing over any barbed wire as a few others appear to have done! Cracking views all round :)

Parked in a lay-by on Sir William Hill Road. Took the public right of way (ProW) from there to south of the pillar. Then climbed over a wall in to the trig field, and climbed up the hill to the summit and the pillar, which has been freshly painted. The cap is missing from the spider. Saw a bizarre sight on my way back down the PRoW. Two ladies were walking a cat on a dog lead! I just thought, for goodness sake, just put a cat flap in the door and let it roam free of its own accord! Saw a man walking a dog as I was driving off, which kind of restored my faith in humanity. As an aside, I dislike betting. Now what made me say that? Oh yes... 4 of 7 today in the Peak District

Now ..... if you just want an easy trig bag then drive up to Sir William Hill road and it’s easy,alternatively park in Eyam and wonder up there ..... look for the mast. ! When up there I was able to see Stanage Edge Trig and Ox Stones Trig mainly because they’re nice and spangly now.Stunning views and managed 5 coats on this one ..... it is a Sir after all !

Had a nice little walk from Surprise View, ascended up through access land from Highlow Brook, then back down Sir William Hill Road towards Grindleford. Sun came out as we reached the trig, so beautiful views. First visit here.

An absolute fabulous area to spend a weekend. The very popular plague village would be an ideal place to stay. Sir William Hill is an old pack horse route from Sheffield to Buxton dating 1758 and the Barrel Inn is the highest in the county. Gifted to NHS services that keep on going through these troubled times, onto Bakewell for a three yearly check.

After a day exploring Eyam we made our way up to the bridleway, and after a few false attempts, finally found the footpath up to the trigpoint.

(1874) Parking spots available just before the start of the byway - you could drive to the pillar, though the track is uneven with standing water, and stone littered. Steady walk to the location, and then a short divert off the PRoW. The pillar sits on access land, so no problems there. All in decent condition, though it is missing its centre cap. Coat of white paint largely gone now. My 299th extant pillar and the first one I've come across that's a Knight of the Realm... Pillar history: Built on the 1st of August 1947, at a cost of £10 0s 0d. Last maintained by the OS in May of 1983.

high point of fantastic 13k run. Approached direct up the hill from,Eyam, path goes straight over the byway over a stile on to the access land and final run over the he her to the pillar. From there headed north on the edge, down to the clough.

Easy find. Park at the road its a 0.5 mile to the top of the hill. Jump over the wall on the right at the ladder sty at 0.40m. Would like to know who Sir William is though. There's a Sir William Hill pub in the village too.

I would camouflage/relocate/destroy all hill top masts if I could. Fantastic little peaked summit with great views in the sun all round apart from the mast. Access via FP stile to the east and follow tracks up wall. Byway is rough, stony with some good puddles but passable in a vehicle.

on the approach from eyam i took the ladder stile from sir william hill onto the access land where the trig is and followed the wall up the hill and cut across on a faint path,views impressive,hot day!!!

Walked over from Abney Moor via Abney Clough on a route from “Peak District Trigpointing Walks”. Access over the wall to the south was difficult would be better from the path to the east. A great trigpoint with fantastic views up to Ladybower and down to Chatsworth. A great days walking – started with mist and drizzle but as forecast cleared to blue skies with the odd shower and rainbow.

Passed nearby whilst out walking with my walking group, The Irregulars, LDWA. So this was an opportunity to visit that was just too good to miss particularly as I was able to bag the nearby cache. Simple walk across the moor from the footpath. Pillar is highly visible and therefore easily accessible. Pillar in good condition with plastic plug. On what was a beutiful day the views were marvellous.

I stayed the previous night at Bretton Youth Hostel. It was very sad to hear that it is turning into a pure rent a hostel soon so individual visitors will not be able to stay there any more. I had an excellent meal at the Barrel Inn. The sun was shining so all in all I was in fine spirits as I hopped or should I say fell over the wall and bagged this trig and hill, one of the newly classified HuMPs. My spirits fell however when I realised I had lost my GPS. Found it a while later at the geocache site in the copse near the track junction to the west.

came on the track from the west- met a group of four chelsea tractors coming the other way, the excitement they must feel chugging along a dirt track would have me fainting, i mean, my girlfriend lives on a local unadopted road, and it's just soooooo aMAZing driving down through the puddles wow!!!! i too could spend all day driving in a belligerent convoy around all the green lanes i know, oh, except i don't know any tossers to do it with.

Magnificent pillar - it could just have rolled off the production line! Brilliant white and only the plastic plug replacement tells you it's been around a bit. N sighthole open, the others closed. Set on a knoll adjacent to a trackway but a stile is close so access is easy. Magnificent views in all directions. Only the b*****y mobile phone mast ruins it. Great spot!

Walked to the trig point after doing geocache GC4891. Could have done with that stile being on the west side of the trig!

Missed the stile that the other loggers used so didn't get to the trig. The wall had barbed wire across the top. Annoying as it was so close to the road!

This one is easy to get at, being situated along side a track. The centre plug is missing and the hole blocked with a plastic plug which is why I've recorded it as 'slightly damaged'. On a clear day, the views would be grand but when I visited it was grey, overcast and hazy.

Pillar has been painted white in the past. Loads of rabbits here. Great views over to the back of Bradwell Edge. Counted at least 10 paragliders, several handgliders as well as gliders in the air today.

Just off Sir William Hill Road, there's a stile to get over the wall and a path back to the trig point pillar.

Casual visitors are deterred by the barbed wire fence.. Certainly stops idiots climbing it. Went in over the stile and continued on through Bretton Clough
