Parked near Ballochleam on Glinns rd Good track to spout Hard going up past grouse butts & across soggy very rough ground with false summits to find trig. Amazing views north to the big hills , east to the Ochills, west to Lomonds and south into the haze of Lanarkshire Follow walk highlands route! .. we didn’t ! Returned by easier WH route to track back to Ballochleam & car at Bailie Bow’s bridge .

SE across sheep pastures to pick up good mapped farm road to Spout of Ballocleam, then good, if a bit soggy, atv track to summit. Stone-built pillar now missing a few stones, located in a shelter cairn. FB and centre cap both missing. Extensive panoramic views, after cloud lifted.

There is a lovely walk to here from Todholes car park via the old Kippen road, then back down to Fintry - about 4 hours. Back down to Fintry is possible, but safe by precisely one narrow route through the escarpment, be very very cautious as if you don't get it exactly right it's very very dangerous, ditto if the ground is wet. Don't try to go through the woods to Culcreuch Castle, they're impenetrable - go round via the fields!

Ascended from Spout of Ballochleam after bagging Carleatheran. Quad tracks easy to follow until about 800m away from the trig, then a direct tussocky path must be found. 25m visibility today, so took a lot of waypoints and compass dead reckoning to find the path again! Very wet underfoot once you get to within about a mile of the trig. No views, unfortunately....

Rather shamefully someone has attacked this trig pillar and removed the flush bracket but that didnt spoil this hill for me one bit. I have given a high score for two things: One the beautiful walk that this lovely and underrated hill gives and two the very interesting old circular shelter cairn at the summit which is quite one of the finest cairns I have seen on a sub2000ft hill. I parked at Gonachan Cottages and walked up past the ruins of Fintry castle and followed the Cammal Burn up to the Plateau. The going underfoot was surprisingly good and the views over the big drops to the north and east was very special. Recommended.
