Approached from west along Pope’s Green Lane byway, track just about drivable. Pulled over on side of lane to south of pillar. Along west edge of field heading north, pillar came into view about ten metres out from the trees on the edge of the woods, good placement, away from any encroachment of vegetation. Cap missing. Farmland views. Wonderful location name.

The byway/yellow road is a fun drive. Parked up due southbof the trig, couldn’t walk along boundary of containing field because of massive rapeseed crops, along neighbouring wheat field and through oak woodland.

With Mrs MD and gang. Followed the west side of the hedge, along the field edge until we reached the trees. Made our way through the jaggies, entered the woodland and found trig in the next field. Should maybe have followed the east side of the hedge but as it was pitch black we took the safe option and returned the same way.

Walked up edge of field and then cut into wood. Walked to top corner and then found trig through hedge and in next field. Good fun doing this in the dark and getting spooked by pheasants roosting. Spotted a tawny owl on the road while driving here and it quickly flew up into the tree and watched us drive by. Gorgeous. Cheers.
