Getting a bit late after starting at 6.14 at Farley Mount, number 14 today so hoping for an easy find. Pulled over by gate into ‘Private’ field about a mile east of A338. Track leads uphill, at top, after about 500 metres, started looking around for pillar. Took a few minutes. It’s hidden by a small bushy clump diagonally right of the top of the track on the boundary with the next field. FB faces out of the bush fortunately. Reasonable views to the west and south.

Last of 10 trigs visited today. Was slightly concerned about the private signs and not many logged visits to this pillar but went for it. Easy to find as up track to top and pillar located in a group of bushes in a field. Nearly got back to the car and noticed another car behind mine. A women asked me if I had been walking - I said yes and she replied that all this land is private and did I not see the signs! I apologised and said that I would not be back again!, I did not mention that I went to the Trig Pillar. It might be easier if someone could drop you off and move the car and pick you up again.

Parked under the trees on Snoddington Rd to the SE of the trig, near the field entrance. Gate to the field entrance stood alone without any fence, so it just looked ridiculous. Walked straight up the hill along the track, then at the summit of the hill, the trig was in the recently - ploughed field to the right of the track. Trig leaning slightly to the left (as you view the FB), otherwise in good condition, asphalt plug, right sighthole open, all other sightholes closed. I left a 2p coin in the right sighthole for the next visitor to find. I imagine that this trig would be engulfed by the bushes in the summer. I only noticed the two "private no public right of way" signs near the field gate on the way back to the car (shame).

Easy walk up from south, obviously a big shooting area, with white pheasants around (never seen these before, and no, I hadn't been on the gin!). Pillar in a thorn bush in the middle of what currently is a brassica field, but easy tractor line access. Good views across northern horizon. Pillar is slightly leaning, but otherwise in good condition - asphalt cap and W s/hole open.

Dumped car in Shipton Bellinger. Cycled up Old Coach Rd and met a couple of women jogging. One told me that there were no red flags flying today (that's good) and the other was convinced we had met before. When I said I was "The Trig Guy", she said "Oh yes, how many are you going to catch today?". At top of hill I went past a gate and along the very wide filed boundaries to Trig. It is hidden in a clump of small trees. Nice views.

Parked on the minor Snoddington Road beneath chestnut trees. A gated track led north to the trig but warned of 'no access without permission' - ignored that and walked up the hill to the trig. Pheasant feeding stations lined the track but no shooters around today. Pillar located a little off the track on edge of a recently planted arable field. Found it clearly a little off vertical, in fact it looks as though it's been moved and dumped at the field boundary but it's at the correct GR. Other than leaning a little it's in good condition; 1 sight hole open, the other 3 sealed; tarmac centre plug replaces the metal cap. Good views west, especially with the River Bourne in flood.

En route to see Swindon Town 3-0 Crawley Town. Walked uphill, inevitably ignoring the private property sign. As I ascended, the ground became considerably muddy and I'd stupidly not changed from my shoes to wellies;imbecile! The near side of the trig was a recently ploughed field; fortunately the far side wasn't,otherwise my shoes would have been drowned in the quagmire.Earlier I'd visited St.Peter's Church in Shipton Bellinger, and as I wandered around the church a cheery woman entered, and after greetings she quipped:'I hope you're not going to nick our roof lead!'

The pillar has an asphalt plug, FB S1697 and is leaning (hence slightly damaged log). The track approaching from the avenue of horse chestnuts on Snoddington Road to the south is lined with bales of hay and plastic water containers. The pillar is surrounded by thistles in a maize field; the views from the approach are largely obscured by the crop as you enter the field. Downs can be seen to the south; Beacon Hill to the west; the wooded hills above Tidworth and Perham Down to the north; the view to the east is over much flatter land.

I must admit that I didn't realise it was leaning at all! Parked on the lane and walked past the Keep Out sign - which I took to mean the field rather that the footpath. The pillar has an asphalt plug replacement. No paint. W sighthole open, the others closed. Concrete base exposed about 4" all round. It's between a wheat field and a newly-planted section that is protected by dead crows swinging sedately on sticks. Not quite sure what is planted in it! Good distant views over the Plain in all directions except N where a small copse obscures the view. Buzzard mewing overhead.
