Top cracked & a corner chipped. Asphalt plug. Public. Natural Resources Wales. Located in Dyfnant Forest. Find the famous ‘welly-boot tree’ & you find this pillar, which is just above & behind it. Close to the property which lends the trig station its name. This is well signed from Hendre Dyfnant below. Good 2 hour walk up to there from the Cann Office at Llangadfan. Glyndwr’s Way is superbly signposted & waymarked. 113/114 SH pillars for me.

Second to last trig on the Lake Vyrnwy & Llanfyllin 239 OS map en-route to a six night stopover in Abergynolwyn in pursuit of Aberysthwyth trigs. Off-road parked just, part way onto the grass verge just over the bridge at Cwm Twrch GR 98810 13307. Following the track 'heading' North/North-West, 'taking' a right at the t-junction of tracks, at GR 99584 14760 signposted 68 'took' a left. 'Taking' another L at GR 998 150, proceeded onto GR 99363 16028 with decision made to 'head' off-track thro' the forest. Although only a short trek, it was a rough one, but before too long, ten minutes or so I located the 'welly bob tree' & behind it the trig. 'Stuck' with the track on return passing the point at which i'd prematurely left it & Etrexed back exactly the same way from then on...6.9 miles taking 2 hours & twenty minutes. Out at 06:00 to 'bag' this one, my second to last trig on the Lake Vyrnwy & Llanfyllin 239 OS map en-route to a five night stop-over in Abergynolwyn with intention Friday onwards to 'bag' as many trigs as possible about Aberystwyth.

Drove up from village of Foel on single track roads which had fewer and fewer passing places and practiced my reversing skills. Don't go this way if your uncomfortable with reversing along narrow lanes. Eventually reaching entrance to plantation at Dol-y-gaseg. First obstacle, wading vehicle ford on river in flood. Then zig zag track up felled hillside and forestry track to pillar tucked in on right hand side. Incongruous piece of modern art, a "footwear tree", along side track below pillar. Exited on different route, FP down and through Pen-y-coed farm where all the farm dogs rushed out to greet me, maybe eight of them, all leaping round barking their heads off. They never tried to bite but all the same was glad to get out of there.

This was another one that had been down for a visit for a while but not got around to it. I think there may be access for vehicles so as you can drive to,but decided I needed the exercise so cycled in from the NE,lanes give way to good forest tracks. There has been some clearing near the pillar which itself still stands surrounded by a few conifers. Thee are much harder forest ones to locate than this one,and it is easier than the map suggests.Pillar in good condition.the views are limited from the pillar itself, but good from back on the forrest roads.

Ah, ha! Another one of these Welsh trigs with the 5-digit numbers. This one has easy access off the road - in fact about 30 yards from a layby which is very convenient! It's all intact with the central plug and it looks as if the top has been repaired with a thin layer of concrete at some time which might explain the extra-deep lug-holes. There are some cracks across the top and a small chip out of the NW corner but nothing major. There is quite a lot of paint on the N and E faces. Good views to the south and south-west but otherwise, the forest blocks things out. The pillar is set in deep bracken/heather and you have to look carefully to find it!
