Very annoying. Must have been close to this but tired of going around in circles and fighting through dense brambles. Read a couple of posts on here beforehand so was expecting a bit of a battle to find it. Kept re reading tasmod’s but couldn’t work out which was the ‘last bush with ivy growing up’. How much growth in vegetation has there been since November? Fought through brambles from south and then around from the north. The angle of milangoc’s picture shows the roof of the Range in the background so was trying to get to that spot. Was against the fence a couple of times. It is a sheer drop into the quarry or builders yard to the west. Maddening. Asked a chap walking his dogs if he knew where it was. He said he’d never seen it but he tried looking along an overgrown path and said it used to be easily passable so could be hidden in there. He said he would have to try and find it himself now he’s heard about it. Gave it another try. So frustrating to leave empty handed, time spent looking for it was time I had planned for bagging a couple more today. Looking through photographs from ten or more years ago give a better idea of the location by reference to the background. Might be helpful for next time. Will have to return. There was a slight raised area to the east of the overgrown paths which I had fought through but it looks totally impenetrable so maybe it is in there. Parked at the Range and walked up onto the common. That was the easy bit. Update 29/10/23 ha, found it! Tried following the line of the fence just to the east of the quarry. Battled through. Stopped after about fifteen minutes of very slow, tiring progress fighting through dense vegetation. Studied pictures again. Even tried to get an app to tell me my exact grid reference. Gave up with that. Looking at the pictures again decided to move a little further north, judging from the angle of the view of the houses and trees on the hill opposite. Fought on. Then spotted it. It looks like the local authority has cut a path to it from the north because the way back was 100 times easier! If the vegetation is kept at bay this will be straightforward.

One of the hardest I've done. was 10m away and didn't see it. cleared a path through brambles and finally reached it. Set back from 'path' and completely obscured from general view. I had to tread down brambles and small blackthorn to get to an original path probably made by triggers. I suspect come summer it will be invisible as it all grows. Its possible to drive up to the downs from entrance next to The Range. To get to it after coming up the gravel track, head to gap in the hedge about 200 yds ahead on left. Come through gap and keep to furthest narrow path on left. When you reach the last bush/tree about 8ft tall with ground ivy growing up it, then thats next to path to trig. You will have to make your own path to this. Nature is reclaiming it all
