Fabulous circular walk from Sutton Poyntz. Crossed the bottom of the hill to Osmington then up the South Dorset Ridgeway to the trig. You have to come off the way and into the field with ‘beware of the bull sign’ to reach the pillar. There was no bull. Spectacular views out to Portland. BTW, the horse isn’t white anymore. Blame Anneka Rice!

Visited while staying with friends on the outskirts of Weymouth. A stunning autumn day. Took them for a walk along ridgeway to visit pillar and the Osmington White Horse. Excellent views over Weymouth bay and Portland. Then off for a dip in the sea.

Wasn’t sure I was really up for this in the pouring rain but it lifted a little and I persevered. Well worth it. Easy walk for about 25 minutes from the top road to the west. Only saw one person.

Parked in Sutton Poyntz. Uphill more or less due north. Through a gate then over a stile and another stile near the top. Continued on path until level ground then right into field (not along path) on south side of barbed wire fence. Pillar comes into view after about 300 metres on the right. Off the beaten path. Stunning views, clear at the time. Isle of Wight and Bournemouth visible to east, whole of Lyme Bay to west and south west. Also clear views to north. Sadly FB defaced by the stamper.

Parked on Chalky Road at start off track (Bank Barrow). Walked track to join the South Dorset Ridgeway path. Trig point is just off the main path in a grassy field. Great views.

Accessed from the bridleway which runs approx E-W just north of the trig. Trig is about 100m S of the path, clearly visible, but had to find a broken down bit of the barbed wire fence to clamber over to reach it. Cap is missing. 2 sight holes open. Lovely views over the Bay to Portland Bill.

First outing in the Old Man’s new car, to Ringstead to see all the cruise ships parked in Weymouth Bay (seven of them including the three Queens, quite a sight). Then onto this trig - nice walk in from west, but by now slightly hazy so rather limited views. On our way back to the car, got rained on out of a clear blue sky. Eh?! Centre, E and W s/holes open (cap sadly gone since 2015), but otherwise vgc.

Drove part way down the RoW, til it got too muddy; walked final 600m, then over b/w stock fence to trig located in cattle pasture. Pillar found in good condition with base a little exposed. Original cap in place, deeply indented lettering; LHD side sight hole open, RHD side and rear plugs degrading. 360deg panorama with Portland Bill prominent.

Lovely run up from the centre of Weymouth in falling snow - a slight dusting on the hilltops. Trig still has brass centre plate and is in good condition. Wonderful views over Portland Bill

On long distance walk today and paused here for some vittles and to view the trigpoint. What a fine prospect from White Horse Hill, although the horse itself is in need of some maintenance - looking somewhat dowdy at the moment. Apparently the good people of Weymouth have never been impressed with the fact that King George is riding away from the town!

Excellent condition and easily accessible either through the gate at the end of the track or by stradling the fence opposite the pillar where the barbed wire isn't stapled to one of the posts. Brass top plug in position.

Original plug with deeply-indented letters. Traces of paint. E/W sightholes open. Concrete base exposed about 6" all round. Magnificent views to Portland, Weymouth Bay and east and inland towards Dorchester. Over a fence just off the Inalnd Coast Path.

I parked on Green Hill about 1km to the west of the trig point, where the is room for one car to pull in off the road, and then walked along the South West Coast Path. I then followed the advice from mickandshane on how to access the trig which worked perfectly.

We parked at the start of the track that leaves the Broadmayne to Ridgeway Hill road on a bit of a bend. If you've got a 4 wheel drive or aren't too worried about your springs you can drive most of the way to the trig. We walked past assorted fly tipping and the ruin of Northdown Barn. If you don't fancy straddling the barbed wire fence you can enter the field via a gate where the footpath drops down to Preston. Good views of Portland and Weymouth. Plug with heavily indented lettering.

Last trig of a three trig (and one missing) day. In a field just off the bridleway with tumuli for company. Far reaching views in all directions - Weymouth, Dorchester, Portland, Maiden Castle, Hardy Monument, White Nothe. A place to visit with binoculars.
