An easy hop over the fence, and then a short walk through the field to this one. A farmer and his tractor saw me walking over to it and didn't seem to mind. A decent view from the trigpoint, which is hidden by the hedge until you're right next to it.

Not straight forward this 1, probably best to go up from behind the house where the track leaves the road, we drove up the track a bit and nipped over a gate, cows in field, still easy to spot.

This is a revisit having visited this trig in August last year and it being buried in brambles. This time I went prepared and gave it a good clear out although it wasn't to bad as most of it had died off.

Along road from Poole west towards Bere Regis, A35, about a mile before Bere Regis, Woodbury Hill turning to right is signposted. Looking up onto high ground, top of pillar just visible on rampart. Pulled in by house on lane below hill top. Approached from south through hedge along the lane and directly uphill. Pillar being swallowed by brambles. Did a bit of tidying up although needs a good pair of shears and secateurs to do a proper job. Great views to south towards Purbecks.

Can see trig from Road (Cow Drove) hidden amongst the hedge on top of the hill. Access via a farm gate from the lane (by the house on the junction) that leads to Dorset Paintball. Had Permission from farmer to enter field (with cows). Can’t see trig from that field so enter into the next field via another gate. Walk along the ridge & hedge line until you come across it. This trig was visible from the road (Cow Drove). Parked at the junction of Cow Drove & Sturt Lane (the road leading up to the paintball place) to the W of the trig, then a short walk down Cow Drove in the SE direction until the gate that was nearly overgrown with thorny prickly things, climbed over the gate and then up the hill to the trig. Trig was in the hedge, in good condition, with lots of thorny prickly things around it, original metal cap with lightly indented letterings, FB is stamped "JOHN ROY WARD 1963 2017 20" & a ladybird (I'm guessing it was his 20th trig of 2017?), front, left and right sightholes closed, rear sighthole not observed. I placed a 2p coin in the ground on the right hand side of the trig (directly below the right sighthole) for the next visitor to find. I imagine that the gate and trig will be completely engulfed in the summer months, so lots of chopping will be required.

Parked on side of the road leading to the paint ball, short walk up road, over low fence, up field and through rusted gate and then what views. The sun was going down but you could see the Isle of Wight, Corfe Castle and the full range of the Purbeck Hills. What a reward for such little effort!

Easy to locate and access, but a short steep climb needed to reach the pillar. Parking on road below the old Iron Age Fort.

Drive back from Swanage to Cheltenham. Hedge boundary top of little hill from road to the south. Very frustratingly found out the next day that there was a TuMP summit 4m higher 500 metres to the NNE that I was unaware of. Grrrr

Woodbury Hill is a former hill-fort of 12 acres, and featured as 'Greenhill' in Thomas Hardy's Far From The Madding Crowd. A fair was held here from 1267 until Victorian times. All quiet up here today with the pillar fine within its hedge: original cap in place with shallow indented lettering, and all four sight-holes closed.

From field gate to S. Pillar in hedgerow becoming tied up with bramble, elder, ivy & thorn, cleared some. Pillar has original cap in place, lightly indented lettering; front, L & RHD side sight holes closed, rear not observed. 360deg views, S & E good, farmland to N.

On south side of a hillfort near minor road. If you pick right place to pull in it's visible from gate. Short climb from here. In a hedge south side with flush bracket is fortunatly clear. Retains plug.

Easily located but inside hedge surrounding hill fort. Plug still in place. Probably excellent views but very misty today. Approached from 5 bar gate due south of trig.

We took the bridle path that leads off the minor yellow road that leaves the A35 just after leaving the A31. We saw the farmer as we crossed the track that leads to Woodbury Farm and asked if it would be OK to visit the trig, which it was. The trig is buried in the hedge with the FB facing south. You could approach off the yellow road a bit futher on, just past a house, where there is a five barred gate giving access into the field. The fields are pasture but were empty at the time of our visit. Plug with indented lettering.
