(3530) Originally tried for this one last December, but I was ill-prepared for just how boggy the going was from the off. I did catch the BM on the electricity sub station as a small consolation though. No real issues today. The more direct route from Woodlands Farm is off the cards, so the longer route via Norwood Farm it is then. Quite an enjoyable walk. Still boggy in a good few places, but nothing insurmountable. Pillar soon reached. In good overall condition, and still sporting all its metalwork - centre cap with lightly indented lettering. Pillar history: Built on the 1st of October 1947, at a cost of £8 7s 0d. Last maintained by the OS in June of 1961.

Whilst the OS map shows a right of way from Bedworth Lane along the drive past Woodlands Farm, this access is no longer possible. It is blocked off by a high locked green gate (see photo). The definitive map of RoW's shows this access was always an "other route with public access" rather than a defined RoW so I guess that access has since been withdrawn. I took the "other route with public access" to the south, past Norwood Farm. This access is still fine and joins up with a footpath heading N then NW, through first crop then cow field, to bring you out in the field where the pillar resides. A nondescript location, no views to speak of.

locked gates, no access this way Do not attempt to approach along this drive.

Got to this from Bedworth Ln by going through gate with "Private" sign on it. Then walked up FP. On the way back, I was stopped by a friendly enough bloke, who rented the yard at the end of the road, and was told, "If I wasn't here and opened them gates you wouldn't be able to go along here. This is private, not that it matters. But if them gates are locked you wont be able to come this way!" He was quite friendly and wasnt really upset, just wanted me to know that I should really get to the trig by going the long way around from the cinema carpark. Somehow I got the idea that he didn't get on too well with the others who lived on this private drive as he told me some stuff about them. So still, now you know, if his gates are shut, you aren't coming this way!

Also not to worry about his dog as it just wanted fussing. He pointed to the ROW as it looked like it was blocked by two huge ramshackle gates. "Just go through them and when you get past the next gate its on your left." Nice chap. Trig still fairly white in very, very waterlogged field. Visited with MarkA.

Easy access here, on a footpath just off a lane. It's all intact with the original plug. The concrete base is about 6" proud of the grassy surface probably because the livestock in this pasture field use this as a meeting point and have created a small hollow around its base. The N sighthole is open, the rest closed. Slight traces of white paint - no trace of the red mentioned in a previous log. Pleasant agricultural views to the N and E.
