From NE (lay-by) along beach, 2hrs after low tide, a little muddy, wellies useful. Belatedly noticed that the OS have it as destroyed, and the rivet found is too close to edge of pier to set an instrument over. Just a witness mark, then? I should have checked the coordinates more carefully.

Good photos from previous logger made this easy to find. Owner happy for me to walk along the pier, although he did say it was at my own risk - no problems there.

The owner of house was very reluctant to permit access. There were a few waves but I decided to not cause any trouble. Did manage to get photo of FB though.

Its over there

Was in the area again, had another go and found it this time. There are two sets of steps down into the water on the north side of the pier. The rivet is on the second block after the second set of steps.

Even with the help of BigJ's photos I couldn't find it. The pier has broken up some more since 2019 so it may have gone or else I wasn't sufficiently persistent in poking about in the guano.

Had my eye on this one for a while, so took my brave pills and rang the doorbell of the old white house on the north side of the pier. I explained to the elderly gentleman who answered what I was after and asked his permission to go out on his pier. He was a bit reluctant and stressed that, owing to the state of the pier, I would be going out on it at my own risk. I reassured him that I would take full responsibity for my actions, so he hesitatingly granted permission. On the way he pointed out a Bench Mark flush bracket on the side of his house and mentioned that over 10 years ago, someone had asked to see it. RHW or iainmac perhaps. The pier itself is old and constructed of stone blocks, which have suffered with the ravages of time. It is covered in turf and sea bird guano and is a bit unpleasant. GPS indicted the rivet should be towards the end of the pier and on the north side. I used a stick to scrape lots of the parapet stones and was evetually rewarded with the 1/2” domed rivet, a bit corroded by the sea but otherwise OK. Photos were taken and the pier owner thanked.
