Doubled up with a visit to The Wicker Man filming locations in Anwoth so parked up by the old Church and had a good look around whilst re-watching a few scenes from the film. When our Wicker Man pilgrimage was complete we took the path by the side of the churchyard and followed the track up the hill. Great views all around especially out to sea and over to the Rutherford Monument. Carried on our way home with a quick stop for a beer at the Sulwath Brewery Tap in Castle Douglas.

Approached over the marked right of way from Gatehouse on Fleet via Trusty's Hill. Odd Pictish carvings there that I laser scanned about 10 years ago! Slightly boggy at the base of Trusty's Hill onto the hill with the trig and two other monuments. I first bagged this one at some point in around 1999. That time I came up from the west via Anwoth Old Kirk (used in some scenes from the Wicker Man film (original, not remake...)). There's also a pivot on Rutherford's Monument

Clearly visible from a distance the approach to the trig point is nonetheless quite difficult at the time of year that I visited. The approach path is very overgrown with bracken and gorse - the latter particularly prickly! The trig point shares the small ridge with a millenium monument to all the ministers of Girthorn and Anwoth churches since the reformation, and a large needle type monument erected in 1842 to Samuel Rutherford, a 17th century scholar, religious teacher and minister of nearby Anwoth church. Excellent views from the trig point of the Fleet estuary and Wigtown Bay.
