Less mither and far less crowds to reach this trig from Peak Forest - parking for 2 -3 cars at the bottom of Old Dam Lane. The area between Castleton and Peak Forest was extensively mined for lead. The seat at the trig is dedicated to William David Martin, two plaques on the seat and one inserted in a round stone at the base of the trig. Someone had kindly made the trig more useful! A seat right round the pillar, complete with view indicators. I guess some trig purists might be upset but I reckon it's a fine bit of adaptation. Access is easy, two rights of way run through the access land it's on. Approaching from the south, went over ground that looked like it'd be quagmire in winter. Ascent over rakes from the north might be a better bet if its wet. Great views and feels remote and peaceful for being a few km from Mam Tor.

Dry, but surprising cold once the sun disappeared. Complaints? If you call the place Peak Forest you think you would look after things like trees! The giants in Oxlow Rake need a bit of TL husbandry! Some impressive stone walling going on to keep the access-landers in. (Or out!) And those old mine undulations didn't half remind me of the Himalayas back in St Andrews.
