Stopping in Gorran Haven for a few night away and bagged this on on the circular walk of the Penare peninsula from the NT car park in Penare. The walk took in Hemmick beach were my wife spotted her dream home, Hemmick Cottage. Not sure if it's a private dwelling or a holiday let, but she wanted me to go and ask the couple sitting in the garden enjoying the sun and what looked like a cold Chardonnay how much they wanted for it!! Anyway back to the trig ... easily found a couple of hundred meters back from the point behind the lookout cottage, inside of which is a little display and information board. Views slightly limited because it's back from the coast.

Mesolithic fans will be rewarded by the fort, field system and Bulwark. Join the NT and save on £2 car park fee. Dodman Point is not the most accessible headland in the country. Fine views from yet another great Cornish headland. The land is owned by the National Trust and contains medieval stip field systems, two bronze age burial mounds, and Iron Age hedge and ditch some 20ft high and 1000ft long. The cross was erected in 1896 by a local vicar to serve as a seamark to aid shipping navagation. Unhappily it failed to save the destroyers Thrasher and Lynx from hitting nearby rocks a year later. A more recent tragedy was the pleasure boat Darlwin which sank with all its passengers in 1966. A few yards inland is a carefully preserved late 18th century coastguard watch house , with its pulpit lookout alongside, and the only one of its kind on the Cornish coast.
