Pillar has some damage around the spider and a chunk missing from the side. Low cloud cover so no views. I walked from the southwest using the footpath. Parked car at SN83365554. I wouldn't recommend the part of the footpath through the forestry due to the head height bracken, the dense young trees and the lack of a footpath in many places making the journey difficult. Instead park in the same place but walk the first part on the forestry track through the woods (starting at SN83635554) and once through the forestry you can follow the footpath to the pillar.

Parked to the right of forestry track which we decided to follow two bridges on from Devils staircase. ROW on other side of river looked a little trickier/wet. On the top switchback took the higher track until it met back up with the ROW again. Very wet but easily negotiated up to end of forestry. Track then leads off to the left and alongside higher points until the track drops and climbs again to the rocky outcrops and beehive cairns at the top. Great 360 views again. Trig has 3SH open, spider and FB good but cap missing.

Having just visited Llyn Du, we continued along the unclassified road through spectacular scenery, making a mental note to return one day and visit Elan Valley. Having had our car serviced the previous week, I was confident that the brakes would hold out going down "Devil's Staircase". However, was not so sure about the clutch, so decided on an alternative route to our lodgings after the trig visit. Parked off road between two fords (approx SN83438 55538). The footpath to the trig heads northeast from just before the second ford. Once clear of the forest, the footpath is not easy to follow without navigational aids because it is crossed by sheep tracks and the terrain has lots of grassy hillocks, ideal for twisting an ankle. However, on achieving the trig, the reward is worth the effort.

Located adjacent to an impressive beehive Cairn on a rocky summit, Drygarn is a great pillar to visit. It is a significant yomp to get to however especially out of season. I approached up the Fon Gwesyn Valley initially on bridleway/path and then across open but boggy moorland. I returned via the bridleway to the east. I hiked solo and was very well prepared and still managed to miss paths and go wrong requiring off-path yomping. If you are planning a hike up I would advise being well prepared. The pillar itself is a bit weatherbeaten and damaged as previously noted as you'd expect in such an exposed location. The Flush Bracket is in very good condition.

Then headed out across hill to intercept bridleway that leads to summit. Even though part frozen this is still wet ground but I think slightly less than the approach from Pen Y Gorllwyn.
