Parked on a muddy layby along Mawstone Lane. Approached via a gravel farm track NE of the trig and then across a couple of fields. The entrance to the track had a chained (but not locked) gate that you could unhook and open. All other gateways between fields lacked actual gates. The worst thing about this track was definitely the winding single-track road up to the layby.

Rode west from Elton then north up the lane after Dale End, steep and potholed. A bit twisty. Pulled over on east side of lane just beyond wooded hill to east next to gate into field where sheep were grazing. Wasn’t sure if pillar was on hill to north east or in the trees to south east. Asked a couple of walkers coming along the lane. They weren’t local and didn’t know. Studied OS sheet 111 and opted for former. About two hundred and fifty metres north east of the gate, over double barbed wire fence fence and wall by a tree then uphill to north along line of wall, pillar was just visible but partly obscured by gate posts. Spider and cap in place. Reasonable views. On my approach through the field I noticed a couple of walkers with four or five dogs entering the field from the south east. The dogs were kept on leads although I still thought it was a bit strange for them to be walking through a field where sheep were grazing. On my way back down from the pillar they were climbing the fences where I was headed and having a devil of a job getting themselves and dogs over the wall and barbed wire fences. We greeted one another. As I looked back it appeared that they were also visiting the pillar as they were coming back down again. Unless they were lost. Was going to score a 7 but fabulous name worth extra point.

Following an eight mile hike out of Youlgrave with no trig points along its route except for the church, I spent the afternoon trigbagging, clocking up another seven miles in short hikes and an equal number of trigs including 6 of the Peak District 88 pillars. I managed to find a safe place to pull in for the short walk along 5hr field lines to this pillar with good views. It is in generally good condition and the spider retains its original centre.

Approached Hopping Farm to seek permission and met farmer on tractor coming down lane. He was OK with me visiting the trig and requested to access from Mawstone Lane using the track starting at SK 20774 62829. This soon runs out into fields but it is then possible to get to the pillar along field edges and through gates without jumping any walls - remembering to retie the string on the gates! Reasonable views but not one of the more spectacular locations.

Parked in a little patch in the wooded area an up hopping Hill there is a stoned up path most of the way then a filed or 2 to the trig, perfect name an our 50th bag ,emotional this one amazing views an plenty of field's for Dawg to run around in if u give this one a visit say hello to dawg ,u will feel the most happy and loving spirit u could ever wish to meet running an hopping wanting to play all around you hopefully bringing u as much joy as she did to our family ,fly high little one fly high

Parked on Mawstone Lane by a gate topped by barbed wire, which is in front of a footpath. Climbed over a wooden fence next to the gate, and walked up the footpath. At the end of the footpath, I walked south east through several fields with open gates up to the pillar.

A convenient farmer was opening the gate on the lane so a quick ask and permission to walk up to the trig was granted. The trig is tucked away in a corner of the field but has a surprisingly good view.

Hot, hot, hot and didnt cool down until 21.00 pm. An evening pedal down the High Peak Trail and then branched off to visit this trig. I have walked but never cycled in this area. A very easy trig to get to via Mawstone Lane. Access via a gateway GR 208 628, climb up beside the wood, not track, and lots of open gates to get to this trig. Gifted to good old Travelodge who with no fuss or mither are taking bookings for 4.7.2020 onwards. Missed them.

Parked opposite quarry and then nipped over first gate to the north. Farm track arcs round the hill and then aim for highest field corner. Did my good deed for the day to the farmer by tidying up plastic animal feed supplement buckets in the mowing field and managed to get covered in watery treacle

nice easy walk as we parked at the gate to the track and walked up this and then over the field to the trig. a bit boggy underfoot as snow has started to melt but pleasant enough.

Parked on the North /South yellow, West of the TP Initially started to walk up the edge of the wood S of the TP but reverted to hoping over the wall into the field, much easier. At the top of the field, wall + b/.w fence to negotiate and then short walk up to the TP. Views over Youlgreave Church and Cricket field to the North

-parked in the layby opposite the sealed entrance to the quarry, west of the trig. I climbed up the steep side of the field next to the quarry/wood and hopped a wall. It's quite exposed if you're trespassing.

Parked at (53.09.41 1.41.27) and followed the mrs mow cow route through the quarry and back down the field – needs one fence crossing. Easier to go up and down the field through the gate further down the lane. Best trigpoint of the day so far with views back to Youlgrave.

Third time lucky !! From Elton along Gratton Lane then Mawstone Lane. Climbed metal gate in layby immediately after Black Nursery Plantation. Followed perimeter of field round to sheep pens which I used to then climb over the barb wired wall to reach trig. Pillar in good order with original metal cap. Average views.

Second time of asking and a second refusal but at least I could see it this time! Approached from same direction as previous attempt but a flock of sheep were in the narrow strip of woodland. Decided to follow perimeter of the adjoining fields so as to avoid stressing any sheep which may have been in lamb. Within 100 metres of the trig but the wall I needed to cross was so unstable that just touching it was dislodging stones. Hence I decided not to try and climb over and instead turned back. That might just be the best decision I make this year as shortly after I had returned to the PROW a shooting party came through the wood !! Heading over to Elton Common. Locals in Youlgreave were as friendly as always.

From Long Rake trig via Middleton and Hopping Farm. Picked up the track from Mawstone Farm into a narrow wooded area. Stopped to consult my map when a farmer checking his flock of sheep suddenly appeared. He proceeded to 'helpfully' point me back onto the footpath believing that I was lost. Decided to go along with that rather than admit to trespassing in search of a 4ft lump of concrete !! Encountered a very skitish cow on the way back down the hill towards Youlgreave. Having used a romer and my map I now realise I was less than 200m away. Bugger !! Will have to try again another day - at least I now know exactly where I'm heading.

Climbed up past Mawstone farm along RoW and down to the narrow wooded area SE of the pillar. This way there was only one wall to climb over. Pillar itself is hidding behind wall near an opening. Views pretty good.

Metal plug [indented letters]. Private. Peak District National Park [beautiful Lathkill-Bradford dales country]. Located at junction of 4 walls, in SW quadrant. Steeply up public footpath past Mawstone Farm [likely owner], then follow tracks [not RoW] south & west. Cross rusty old gate & proceed to top of field & through open gateway to find pillar in field corner. Return to track & walk south west to soon reach road via gate beside Black Nursery Plantation.

A bit trespassy this one, parked in a small layby opposite a decrepit shack with a gate and no entry signs at 207627, walked north along the road and climbed over the gate (watch out for the barbed wire) and climbed up the hill around the walled wooded area. A bull made his presence known but he didnt bother us too much.

White pillar in corner of field at junction of dry stone walls on Harthill Moor. Nice view north over Youlgreave with its church tower.
