Parked in village of Dundon then walked west along a lane which becomes a track. Past a house with a couple of noisy dogs out of control, one of which tried to nip my heels, just ignored them. After about three or four hundred metres came to a gate into a field on the north side of the track. A notice on it about being a site of scientific interest. Headed north west across grassy field, bit soggy, a worn path heads to north west corner of field then through a gate. No obvious route directly uphill to north. Picked a way through the hawthorn (?) bushes , fairly steep to get to summit. Pillar has a flowerpot on top and a memorial plaque on the side. Quite touching. Pot seems to be fixed on so not able to see if cap is still in place. Good all round views, including towards Glastonbury Tor to north east.

Fantastic views over the Levels... or at least they would have been on a clear day. Today was overcast and very hazy. The pillar is in excellent condition with all it's metalwork intact. There is some soil erosion around the base of the pillar but it's in no danger of toppling. Definitely worth a visit.

To the west the Somerset Levels disappear into the mist; Glastonbury Tor rises up beyond the Polden Hills to the north; the ridge of Great Breach and Copley Woods are behind Dundon Hill to the east and the flat low hills of southern Somerset can be seen in the distance to the east.
