A pleasant 20 minute stroll from the lane up along the track through the fields. Height gained quite deceptive until you look north and see the valley and rising hills beyond.

Drove up to the trig from The Pleck. My car was not at all suitable for the very bumpy and uneven track! Trig in good condition, original metal centrecap with indented letterings, right and rear sighthole open, front and left sighthole closed. I left a 2p coin in the right sighthole for the next visitor to find.

Met with farmer who was ploughing the adjacent field. No problem in allowing me to visit. Apart from that nothing to add other than to confirm that it is still there and in good condition.

The reason I've slowed down in my trig bagging over the last year or two is parly becasue I now have a dog. Walking official footpaths with a dog is easy but it's a lot more tricky if there is a minor trespass involved or a bit of fence hopping. I followed the same route in as Stevie Boy. There was a lot of shooting going on in the valley below my parking spot - something else that would have spooked my collie if I'd have had him with me today. He also wouldn't have liked the two cattle grids on the final approach to the trig. Glad I left him at home today.

Parked just north of Pembridge Castle (which is 20 odd miles south of Pembridge!) at spot height of 166m. Followed path through fields & woodland south to the pillar. Fantastic view across valley to Garway Hill,Edmunds Tump & the Skirrid. Second trig of the day. Overcast but good watching the cloud skim across the tops of the hills

The pillar stands by the side of a farm access track on a hill to the north west of Monmouth. The trig has a metal cap with deep lettering and FB S7017. I parked on the minor road to the north west of Pembridge Castle. A footpath was followed across a couple of fields and up through the woods of Sheephouse Brake to reach the track. The woods were full of bird song and had extensive bluebell colonies. The trig has impressive views of the wooded hills of East Monmouthshire to the south and of a broad valley and more distant higher hills to the north west.

Up a private road and a hidden gem of a site, with tremendous views to the north and beautiful secluded surroundings, even on a chill winter's day. A real surprise and the hightlight of the day's cycling.
