Wonderful Victorian building, some of it cathedral-like:surely this will not be demolished? Found trig in middle of sheep-filled field - they politely moved out of my way as rain threatened:lowering grey & black clouds drifting in from the moors. Very atmospheric;it was early evening time. But my luck held, and returned to Lancaster in a reasonably dry state. Later a fine pint in the Brown Cow!

Couldnt get to it today, the previous remarks about - gap in the wall - are less relevent as its been partialy fixed. Immediately east of the trig the wall has had some attention and wooden pallates block entry. Its would be easy enough to climb the pallates and jump the wall but there is a barbed wire fence approx 1 foot from the wall which you would need to clear and on todays visit you would land in a sea of very wet and deep mud. You then have the problem of getting back over the barbed wire & the wall. Contrary to my OS map which shows 2 adjacent fields to the north before the road reaches Newlands Road the actuality is that the field immediately north of the trig field has been merged with the field the trig is in. In the NE corner, adjacent the road is a locked gate which will give easier access to the trig. Which it would have today if it hadnt been yet another sea of wet deep mud. I recommend visiting in a less rainy season (or when the grounds frozen).
